Hello all! It's been a while. Been busy with some digitalisation projects at work which have taken almost all of my spare time.

So here's my predicament. Having used for a short time the following lenses on both their respective CAN0N and NIK0N models:

28 1.8 (CAN0N) about £300 /
35 1.8 (NIK0N) about £200 / Pentax has the really nice 35 2.4 but it's not the same
50 1.8 about £80 / Pentax has the same for over double the price
85 1.8 about £300 / The nearest would be the Samyang MF which I had before but AF got me taking so many more shots

I really enjoyed it and found myself wanting to stick to them focal lengths at those speeds. I am quite saddened that I am not going to be able to have something similar for K-mount, not without breaking the bank that is (going LTDs).

I love my K5! Still a tank soldiering on and can't see myself using another brand camera yet.

So, any recommendations/comprises that you can recommend out there?

A friend advised me to get those lenses and grab a cheap old DSLR from another brand.
My closest Pentax lens equivalents:

28 1.8 (CAN0N) about £300 /
30mm f2.8 about £140

35 1.8 (NIK0N) about £200 / Pentax has the really nice 35 2.4 but it's not the same
35mm f2 about £140

50 1.8 about £80 / Pentax has the same for over double the price
55m f1.8 about £30

85 1.8 about £300 / The nearest would be the Samyang MF which I had before but AF got me taking so many more shots

85mm f1.8 about ££200

You don't get autofocus or autometering but that means nothing to me anyway. You do get fabulous image quality at very reasonable prices.

Quite right and I knew that but it's frightening how many stupid errors I make these days.

GR is 24mm equiv. 01 on the Q7 will be 35mm equiv.

The Q7 (why not Q5?) does look interesting. I think it could do very well. The larger sensor will make a big difference. Pity they didn't put that size sensor in the Q in the first place. I really never saw the point of the Q10 and now it makes even less sense. I'd be a bit hacked off if I had bought one. I can imagine it ending up in cornflake packets now. I could see a reason to still buy a Q because of the different (arguably better) styling and (definitely) better materials quality, but no reason at all to buy a Q10. There must be loads to shift.

Previously you looked at the range of Pentax DSLR's and the model names and thought, eh? Now there is the nascence of a clear strategy about what Pentax offers. It is immediately obvious and much more marketable.

At long last some common sense has prevailed. This is a great move and provides a foundation now to build at the higher end.

I would have liked to have seen the K500 at £399 but I understand the build quality justifies it. Now it's a case of getting the message across.

I think in a year's time the Pentax/Ricoh camera lineup will look very handsome.

That's why they bought Pentax. It's Pentax that is destined to be the mass market brand. There is still room for a product like the GR. And look at what Nikon did. They tried to outmanoeuvre Ricoh with the Nikon Coolpix A, but they haven't. So Nikon have recognised the worth of this product and the r&d lines associated with it.

Guess that they are going to keep the K5 (II) for a while yet then. Maybe the K½ will be full frame.

A fixed wide angle lens compact is designed for those who think about photography not labels.

The GR series are primarily street photography tools and pink Gucci superzooms aren't what you want in the favelas.

This has more than enough appeal to be profitable. The wider, fashion conscious market is for targeting with different products. The Q, for example.
