You would think that common sense would prevail. It's silly to have to talk about the exact semantics of weatherproof, waterproof and weather resistant and the small print.

Pentax marketing clearly gives the impression that WR means that you kind use the cameras in all conditions. Obviously a modicum of common sense has to prevail and you wouldn't expect this to mean that it will be fine all day long in the Antarctic. But you would expect the claim that the camera shuts out water drops means it can be used in the rain without water ingress. The size and frequency of the rain drops shouldn't really be an issue.

Given that the failure of the WR seems very rare then you would have thought that Pentax would give the customer the benefit of the doubt (if there is any) and just quietly replace the camera without fuss, especially given the K5 is gearing up for clearance prior to the new model(s). The alternative is to have the bad publicity of threads such as this and well known blogs and to potentially have to justify the situation in court and to have the advertising challenged too. For example, I would say the fact that the camera is not guaranteed against rain ingress is a significant condition of the claim that it shuts out water drops and therefore should be made prominent alongside the headline advertising.

The cost to Pentax is negligible and certainly much less than the potential reputational damage to one of the key attributes of a Pentax camera.

It's alright. It is pretty badly written but I think it summarises most of the Pentax advantages quite well and the visuals are good. I don't care much for the gadzillion colours, I think harping on about that lessens the seriousness of the cameras as photographic tools. But then the market positioning seems to be firmly mainstream amateur/enthusiast.

It says he's closed until end September. If so, I can recommend Pramath at Asahi Photo, Brentford in London.

The detail on the stickleback makes it for me. It does have the smoothed look of noise reduction, at a lower ISO it would be top notch. But it is still very, very good.

I agree with David. The odd colours (although I am even more colour blind) and the highlights in the water are tricky to deal with. I think the third image would be a real standout in black and white, which nicely circumvents the colour cast.

A good, diverse set that really converys a sense of the trip.

Thanks for looking and for the comments. Could a mod kindly move this to Your Photos. I'm not sure how it ended up in General Chat, middle age does strange things.

After a massive rationalisation campaign of deleting all my rubbish I have finally got around to presenting my 'keeper' images in a more satisfactory manner by creating a website with the subscription I won for the 300th weekly competition here.

There are certain things I'd like to change about the website and I'm a bit restricted by the unalterable parts of the template, but basically I'm satisfied with the overall look for the first attempt. I've still got some images to finalise and a bit of chop and changing to do. For me the whole exercise draws a line under my first four years as a photographer and has helped me gather my thoughts and understand what I do well and what I don't do well. The apprenticeship will never stop of course but I now feel ready to focus on a few areas, put a lot more effort into it and hopefully start producing some decent stuff. I might even print a photo at some point.

Please feel free to stop by and tell me what you think.

It is a very piece of kit. You have to be aware of its limitations though - if you look at the edges of the star shots in the demonstration then it becomes clear.

I would buy the unit predominantly though if you need the GPS functionality as a perfectly adequate barn door tracker can be made for next to nothing and it will do a better job.
