20 inch telescope! Wow.

At 300mm then star trailing will be a little noticeable with a one second exposure. The Moon is a lot faster so there will be less deatail at one second. Astrotracer gives you a bit of scope - I'd say it gives around five times greater exposure times. Ideally an exposure time would be around 0.3 seconds but there just isn't enough light with an eclipsed Moon. So you have to compromise. This is ok as the full Moon is rather featureless and never looks that detailed.

You might be surprised at how little time you get at 300mm before motion blur kicks in. The Moon of course moves much faster than the stars so even with the astrotracer it's tricky.

It would probably have been the exposure times - you can see stars close to the Moon when it is in total eclipse. Try looking at a regular full Moon - it leaves an impression on the retina. Plus the low light will be more affected by atmospherics. The eclipse happened when it was a bit lower in the sky too, so more atmospheric interference.

I'm not trying to ban everything. It would make sense to me to perform dangerous manouevres over the sea not an A road, especially given the fact that an airplane crashed near there before. Unless that happens there will be no more Shoreham airshow. I doubt there will be another anyway,
