There is some very nice detail. The colour and tonal variation are lovely. The parts are really good but the whole isn't really working for me, the geometry of the elements just don't seem to gel together, there's just a bit too much going on. I'm not keen on the dark band at the top either. A square crop of the middle portion?

Give your Aunt Betty a K3 and see what she comes up with.

I would not pay for the removal of the green pearl, the addition of a red ring or for keeping the screwdrive the same. I wonder how much changing the coatings will cost. Unless it is marginal I can't see how the update can be positively marketed to the initiated. On the positive side there is no absolutely no point updating the lenses unless there is ff coming.

But the crop factor is merely academic since the user can crop away 12mp to leave identical images. No?

The second point is the one I am interested in. Again it only applies where we are considering equal pixel count. Where there is a 50% higher pixel count then it is back to an academic difference. From what I have seen of a wide variety of lenses on the A7/R then they perform very well indeed on a full frame sensor, which is good news. I am not convinced on edge sharpness for some lenses - the FA*24 images I have seen struck me as odd. The FA Ltds though look simply wonderful. The FA Ltds are for me reason enough for a Pentax ff.

But if it is an elephant at close range then it might not all fit in.

I think these endless crop factor disagreements could be ended by stating the type of sensor the lens is to be used on.

If we are comparing a 24mp APSC sensor to a 24mp FF sensor then the crop factor applies. If we are comparing a 24mp APSC sensor to a 36mp full frame sensor then it is irrelevant as you can simply crop the image yourself.

A very nice way to present the year. I really like the green and pleasantness of October.

Great set Ralf, really well crafted images and a few there that I don't recall having seen.

I think it works very well indeed. There have been a few reports of water ingress but really very few - all cameras of all brands have some level of problems/premature failures.

Given the high performance of the WR I do think it's a shame that Pentax don't stand by the odd case of failure under warranty as those few cases tend to grab headlines and sow doubts.

It remains to be seen how the sealing copes with time, particularly zoom lenses.
