Blyth beach. Hardly a cloud in the sky, so tried to look for patterns in the water.

K-3 and Samsung 12-24. C&C welcome

There is some very nice detail. The colour and tonal variation are lovely. The parts are really good but the whole isn't really working for me, the geometry of the elements just don't seem to gel together, there's just a bit too much going on. I'm not keen on the dark band at the top either. A square crop of the middle portion?

I think you found the patterns Alan! Good job you mentioned the horizon before I saw this

The image is lovely, the way that the ripple in the water leads the eye is perfect. I also like the intersection of angles, the ripple to the tide and the tide to the horizon. To top it off the colours and exposure are just right.

I love the very near foreground with its frothy detail and gentle light.

I think one problem composition-wise is the angle that the wave is crossing over on - it kind of cuts off the flow of the leading line ripple and conflicts - maybe another with no wave would work better? Also the wave is squeezed in rather near to the horizon, so it may be an element to sacrifice?

It may be the poor monitor I'm using here at the moment, but I'm seeing some banding in the sky, and some blue interference? If it is there then a bit of NR should clear it out

As mentioned above, I like the conflicting angles in this composition and I think they improve the image rather than detract from it. Each to their own..........

I can't see any banding or blue interference on my monitor.

Looks OK to me too. Better get an AA filter for your monitor!

Well seen image and an unusual cross flow of the tide.

No, I see it again on the laptop - the bands are there, but actually magenta in cast. Its not a major issue small, but I'm sure Alan will deal with it if its a requirement.

I think it's a really good shot - I'd struggle to criticise anything about it

Yep, don't normally like to comment on other members photos, but yes I do like this very much and one of those photos I wish I had taken. Thanks for sharing.

I use the same (calibrated) Dell monitor as John - and I can faintly see some horizontal bands in the darker, upper part of the sky. They become a little more obvious if you copy the image and zoom in to about 300% and/or increase saturation.

Having said that, I love the photo and don't think I'd have noticed the banding had Nigel not mentioned it.

Thanks Andrew, I'm glad my eyes don't need testing after all

I don't really see the need for such a 'defense' here against my observation ... nothing about it is an any way a comment on the photographer's ability, and he could not have done anything about it when shooting anyway. I can only comment on what I see, and I can only assume that others are just not looking that closely

This is really a matter of final tidying up & presentation - how important it is to the photographer will depend on the final output size. I know it could not be printed very large without being a problem, and I would add to that the fine luminance noise still present across the entire sky.

I only flag up matters like this that may affect final presentation to alert the photographer to something that may have been easily missed in preparing the shot initially. I myself would always greatly apprectiate the extra eyes honing in ,and I believe the photographer here most likely does too. But I could easily just leave it out, and add something more easily ... perhaps this is better ..'Another cracker Alan '.

But I don't think that's what he needs.

I thought I saw some distant seabirds but once I'd given my monitor a wipe they disappeared
I like the way the pattern of the water's edge has been captured.
