For sale is my M42 screw thread telephoto, made in Japan. I've owned the lens for a couple of years in which time I've taken three photographs with it, two of which were just now. I've looked for more information on this lens but found nothing, so its probably one of those well kept secrets.

In excellent condition, just a bit of minor dust which doesn't affect performance.

There are a lot of good reasons you would be foolish not to purchase this extremely rare gem:

- Built to outlast the human race.

- The ideal safari lens as a herd of stampeding elephants couldn't dent it.

- Good for photographing nuclear conflicts.

- A good upper body workout every time you use this lens.

- Impossible to scare wildlife given the enormous minimum focusing distance.

- It works.

- A lot more desirable than my car.

Here is a photo taken with this lens which also proves the above point:

In perfect condition, as new.

Current new prices for these lenses are £289 and £139 respectively and seem set to rise very shortly. Sensible offers are invited, including swaps in the 30-35mm range (55-300 also available in separate thread).

I would be able to post these lenses on 6th May or they would be available for collection in Derby 6th or 7th May.

A beginner friendly one lens solution at a wedding !!!!!!!!!!

To be honest I'm not sure that exists. There is one chance to get these shots right and it just isn't that easy. Experience is required.

I have two of the lenses that interest you, the FA50 1.4 and DAL 35 2.4. I will be selling both of these shortly (both mint), I can provide you with some portraits if you wish. I agree that the safe option is a zoom. However, I think that a prime in the right hands will give you more creative options and ultmately more interesting shots. My personal preference would be the FA 50 1.4, which I would mostly use it at f1.8. But it does require some practice to use lenses well at wide apertures. I just wouldn't trust it to a beginner. How much is a pro photographer, is it really too much for a once in a lifetime event?

Finally, if you asked around I'm sure you could find a hobbyist to photograph your wedding for just the cost of transport and accomodation. I would.

Good luck!

find others who would do the same.

Very good deals but what strange listings. If you have those lenses then you are a photo geek like your buyers, you know what they are worth and how to describe a lens properly. Fishy. Then again he did buy an L series lens.

SMC Tak 55mm F1.8? Don't for heavens sake get rid of it, it is one of the greats! Mind you, get rid, it's horrible, I will take it off your hands......

Seriously though, I cannot understand why these lenses go for so cheap? Maybe people are put off the M42 screw mount, because optically they are really one of the great Takumars, period!
I have the first of the K-mount versions of this lens, same optics, but with the bayonet, and I am always surprised how seriously good it is when I put it on my DSLR's. Currently it is sat on my MZ-5n at the moment, which makes a cracking combination.

A vastly underated lens IMHO.
Obviously very common but I can't find many photos. There aren't many on the flickr Pentax SMC lens tag required group and only 26 in the PPG (that number will increase soon). Maybe it's not paired with a digital camera much. A few more, the first three wide open the last at f8 or 11, can't remember which:

Massive crop (I wasn't even focused on the tree it was just a rough bit of hyperfocal guesswork):

All handheld. The portrait of my daughter was very unpromising, dingy conditions and a very close background of brambles and scrub, but it has come out with some 'pop'. The fern was very dark too and not far off the ground. I'm not saying these are particularly good shots but initial results are hugely promising, definitely worth sticking on a tripod. I might see how this lens performs head to head with FA Ltds and the DA*50-135.

£20, unbelievable.

It's the SMC Takumar 55mm 1.8 M42, circa 1972.

Not much point selling it as it's only worth £20. Built like a tank, very smooth to focus. Forty years old and it looks brand new. Seems to be on the cool side colours wise, but that's my preference anyway. Just got to work out how to best utilise its character now. It's been sitting unused for the last two years.

I quite like the one with 'Canyon' emblazoned, not sure if it's a misspelling or a cleavage reference.

I need to rationalise my lens collection due to some new arrivals competing for bag space so I'm giving each a good workout before deciding its future. Filthy weather today, rain and wind made it difficult, and I was photographing any old thing but nonetheless I was rather taken with some of these results. It seems to be one of those lenses that can get something out of nothing and can give you that 3dish effect reserved for lenses sprinkled with pixie dust. All wide open or a stop down:

I'll give it a proper workout in more favourable conditions. I wonder if anyone recognises the look of the lens or would hazard a guess as to its identity. Or indeed thinks it's not as good as I do. The dog is not as cute as he looks, in fact a right pita.

I think the problem is Curry's. I wouldn't expect good customer service from them (even though they should provide it).

When I got into my K20 repairs saga I ended up dealing directly with Johnson's Photopia from the second repair onwards (as I had little support from the Pro dealer). Johnsons were pretty good and sent couriers to pick up the camera and return it each time. Pentax were also very unhelpful, until I got the UK MD involved and he sorted it very satisfactorily.

I switched my custom to SRS and when I had K5 sensor stain problems, those were dealt with by the retailer highly efficiently and without cost to me or any need to deal with anyone else. That's how it should be.
