I attend both days, and the idea of staying just down the road is appealing. But, I'm displaying a classic car at the event, I have two and I like to swap them around so I have one on Saturday and the other on Sunday, so I go there and back. I'm only about 40-odd miles away so it's not so bad. But some of our club members stayed there for the Classic weekend in July and enjoyed it.

Another trip to Llangollen in August for the sixties weekend, which is starting to take off again after it stopped during the Covid period. It's a similar event to CTW in July, though the timetable is a little less busy there are events along the line including music and a group protesting at the Beeching cuts.

A fair bit of diesel traction. A long spell of dry weather prior to the event meant that steam was limited, so the heritage railcar and diesel locos did a lot of the work.





This is another stitched image. I took a similar photo a few years back, but with a different loco. It's one of those locations where it's pretty easy to get a good image, there's a place to stand just up from the station with a good view down to the station, the river and the hotel on the left. I had a single image that actually came out better, but there's a very noticeable camper van trying to negotiate the road junction on the right which detracts from it.

I usually try to keep people out of my photos, for no specific reason, but this caught my eye while the loco was taking on water at Corwen station.





This is a stitch of multiple images taken from a point up the hill behind the showground.



I didn't take as many photos this year, as I haven't at many events that I've been to, because they're events that I've done many times in the past and I've been feeling as if I'm just duplicating images from previous years, with only the weather conditions changing.

It's always good to have something other than the fireworks themselves in the photo, as you have in yours. I went to a few local fireworks displays, but there's nothing around that would look good included in the images.

Found it. This is an MX that I bought from the car boot sale for a quid, I've no idea if it works or not and the water / rust marks suggest not. The back would need to be cleaned.







I paid a pound for the camera, mainly because it had a nice strap. So a pound would buy it without the strap, plus P&P of course if you don't want to come to South Cheshire and collect it.

I suspect I've got an old MX somewhere, with no idea if it works. I'll have a look this afternoon and come back to you.

I just realised I haven't been in here for a while, but I just haven't been taking all that many photographs, other than snapshots. I used to go out on bonfire night for fireworks, but I realised they all look the same around here, and I've only just (last weekend) been to a motorsport event to get some decent stuff. I tend to go to the same places, so I get the same photos over and over.

Still have the Kx, though the plastic bit around the outside of the viewfinder is breaking up now.

That's part of the problem, but as I understand the main issue is not having a "technical lead" or something like that name. One of the things they need to do is to assess the impact of other things on the safety of the aircraft. For example, in the classic car world, some people are concerned about the impact that E10 fuel will have on rubber hoses and so on - this "technical lead" needs to be on top of similar changes and be aware of what, if any, effect a change of that nature would have on the aircraft. If jet fuel changes, they need to know what the fuel tank bags are made of, and the hoses, and anything else, and know whether they'll need to be changed. And then replicate that out for every single part of the aircraft. On something as complex as a Vulcan (or Concorde, another hideously complicated one that people would like to fly again) you can imagine what a job that would be.

I saw the final flight of the Vulcan when it did the tour of the UK before being mothballed, it's always been an impressive sight even though it was just cruising for most of that tour.

^ Unfortunately I don't imagine it will fly again - too much of a technical responsibility that no-one will take on. It was certainly impressive when it did fly - I saw a great display at the first Carfest North event, it came low over the car park setting off all the alarms.
