Hi thanks for the welcomes...... i think they tried knocking at the door earlier but i hid behind the sofa!
The best strategy is to simply remove the tinfoil hat (even if Porky Pig IS using a russian spy satelight to plant thoughts in your brain) go nicely with the men in white. It helps to have a positive attitude. Even if you are NOT crazy, you get a couple days stay at the luxurious "Club Meds", free food, and drugs you can't otherwise legally obtain. Co-operate, be nice, and say things like "I'm feeling MUCH better now! and you'll get out alot faster than the ones that run away, screaming "I'm NOT CRAZY!!!!"
I remember having to gaurd a fella that made national headlines for eating his wife. He was much bigger than me. We are out on the grounds, and I pass this very frightened coworker who asked me if I was worried about him not having restraints....."We have a mutually bennificial understanding" I answered "He's too lazy run. I'm too lazy to chase him. We're cool..."
My (former) place of employment was a state run facility, making us all government workers. And thier unanimous position was simply this:
"If you think you can come here and make us work harder than we have too....You Must be Crazy!"
my macbook has a "magsafe" powercord that is held in by a magnet. yank on the cord and it simply disconnects and the laptop stays safely put.
I find that thread interesting also.
those cards may be great if they get the right range/speed/cost balance!
another option is I'm waiting for the second generation iPhone to get released. I see a possible use for that device for me if I can plug a card or cardreader into it and set it up to transmit the images to my laptop!

have you considered using a graduated background to create the illusion of depth behind the image?
I'd try bringing it from black to medium grey right near the base and back to black. Adding a faux shadow near the base and warping it where the grey turns to black.
Don't know if that'd actually improve anything, but might be fun to try.

I'd bet that with a reverse adapter, you could mount that lens to another pentax lens and get some great macro shots!

seriously, go to a store with a good selection of used lenses. Explain your prediciment, and see if you can swap the more popular nikon, for something pentax.

can you work without flash?
can you tape a orange (for incandesent) or magenta (for flouresent) gel over your flash to match it to the facilities lights, and use it for fill?
can you rent some equipment?
if not then set your camera to MF, use your oncamera flash....
keep your subjects away from the walls, get in closer, use wide angle lenses wherever possible, and be prepared to touch up alot of redeye in post.
ps if you're only doing portraits, look into using halogen, or flourecent work lights from a hardware store. they can be bounced or diffused and white color balance for them on manual.
