these earlier versions of ps, actually ran faster on windows, on the macs, if you booted your mac with bootcamp, or ran parallels. Windows runs natively on the macs, not emulated. The macs running windows actually ran faster than thier windows only counterparts. After cs3 came out with native osx support, the macs saw photoshop running faster in osx than in windows even with better equiped (faster processors) windows machines....
Go figure.....

NOW....why is it everyone get so excited about Apple???
Is it because we are photographers and it is much better suited to our media?
I have heard you can't get the range of software for it like a PC, but then if you are just editing photographic work mainly, that wd not be a disadvantage?
Can someone please concisely list a few pointers in order of importance why I should buy a MAC notebook over a PC?
You simply cannot got wrong using a Mac for photo editing.
PC's can do the job, but there are lots of problems out there....

I arrived to find Gerri had stuff piled up neatly everywhere. Different outfits, makeup, enough hairstyling equipment to open a salon......
I still remember the sound of breaking glass, and whisp of smoke that emenated from her cranial region as the reality of it all sunk in, whilst I hander her a motorcycle saddle bag to pack it into.
I had a tank bag loaded with cameras, two saddlebags, and large duffle with camping equipment.

If I too contemplate an apple over a PC, will there be any conflict at all with doing main PS work on the files when I get home to my PC
psd's are cross platform.
if you get a macbook, max out the ram.
if moneys no problem....use osx with cs2 or cs3.
if money is a problem, you can run boot camp, with windoze and a copy of your existing photoshop on the macbook. (While possible I'd sooner use pse on the laptop and stay in osx...you'll never go back to windoze...I'm sure).
look into Aperture!!!!! I love it!
amonyite, look in your applications folder for a program called Automator...worth learning can save you tonnes of time if you do alot of repetive work. For those those that think photoshop actions are a time saver, Automator is like " photoshop actions" for your entire operating system and all your programs!!!

When you only have a rubbish computer and no fancy software, you have to try other options!
A trip to the one hour photophinisher can be good for business!
You go out get some images and have some fun. You head off to to walmart, let thier customers watch with curiosity as you pull a card outa; your camera and upload your images. You get some ooo's an awes, be generous with some tips, and hand out a card or three. (not really my clientel, but I've had two or three customers get out of line at the portrait counter and ask for my card when they found out I do location/environmental portraits.).
Hit the photo center by noon when they're busiest, and get your pics at one. By two it's off to a nice lounge (when they're not so busy)for coffee, where you examine your prints, and wind up with a waiter/waitress going gaga over your work and taking some cards for thier "up and coming" Model friends.
You sat out some of the worst light of the day and got some marketing done...time to go get some more photos.
I call that my day off.
long winded way to say it pays to "Get it right in camera"

I'm surprised nobody has used this to highlight the manual lens exposure issue to Pentax.
If they are watching, do it, we might get something done about it before the K10D fades into oblivion when a new body comes out.
It'd help even if they simply declare that pre-A series lenses can't be used. At least it would clear up the issue and draw a line under it . . . then watch the flood of manual lenses appear on eBay.
I wish they'd asked for images made on all Pentax dslrs, as most of my good stuff these last couple years were created on a ds2.
Gerri's k10 is new, and gets used for customers, but alot of customers don't want thier images used that way.....will hope they ask again next year when we have more personal stuff that we can submit.
