However I feel that when an otherwise honest person is reduced to stealing and or homelessness it is due to our failing as a society to be our brothers keepers.
If our safety net wasn't full of holes, they wouldn't be there.
(as an aside note if employers can make drug testing mandatory for employees to maintain job elegability, why can't social services do the same? the guy who earned his money to pay taxes to support the guy on social services who doesn't have to submit... and if the guy who is on social services can get drugs, did he not just defraud the taxpayer (and or his own children) to buy the drugs?)
oh well, back on subject kudos to the other post about using your camera to document your valuables for insurance purposes!

I, personally have a method of dealing with such matters...
I take sensible measures to prevent...if that fails, I hunt them down....
A) if I find them...I find out why....if it was greed, I take back my stuff, or something of equal value, by ANY means necessary.
B) if it was desperation (like trying to feed their kids after some bad luck) I call it charity and call it a day.
C) If I don't find them, I try to believe it was B rather than A.

aperture can do it with a free plugin.
use pentax software to remote capture, and aperture does the rest.

I seem to recall a similar situation where, moving a plist file and forcing the mac to rebuild its iphoto library solved a number of issues caused by a corrupt plist file.

I don't have the k100 super, but highly recomend aperture for raw processing (check aplle for compatibility on thier website...my pef files from the ds2 are not supported, but the k10 is)....I only use Iphoto for slideshows, books, calendars etc.

the intuos and cinteque lines are better, but I've gotten along quite happily, without.
I'd suggest you buy the largest model you can afford, for your desktop...and the smallest also for your laptop bag.
I'm going to get one of the bamboo models for my laptop, just cause i like the new touchpad and programable buttons and pse4.

a typical wedding, might have 1200 images, and 8 hours of hi def video from up to six cameras to sort through. finished products include a slide show at the event, thank you cards at the event, prints, books, dvd and web. can you imagine doing that manually?
events are similar, and for example a funeral might have 150 images and two hours of video....
During an event I need to back up everything as I go.
After an event, I have to synch a project across several computers.
I try to finish each project in three days and send files off for printing, before starting the next job.
So how do I do it?
Exif Renamer.
Applescript.
Automator.
Aperture.
Photoshop.
Final Cut Express.
iLife.
How does it work?
I pull a full card outa my camera, and replace it with a fresh card off a holder on my keychain.
I plug the full card into a reader on my laptop.
image capture launches and downloads the images, then launches exif renamer, which renames the files acording to date and time, and places them into a folder named with the date and time.
when I insert a blank disc into my laptop, roxio toast will auto launch and burn a back-up (spanning multiple disks if needed) and launch aperture when finished.
Aperture loads the images into a project and adds the customers name (and other data) to the metadata.
I then do an edit and select some two star (or better) images for an impromto slideshow and print thank you cards.
once the feild work gets home there's even more automated fun! (to help a smooth workflow)
So it's really dates and times and names imbedded into the filenames and metadata that keeps it sorted.
In the end, all I need is the customers name and or the date of the function, and between iCal, addressbook, aperture, and spotlight, it takes all of 5 seconds to find an image or project, from the last few years....out of many thousands....

I usually do a search, for posts since last visit. followed by clicking on the little icons beside the name of the last poster.
half the time I'm not even sure what thread I'm in......
this could just as easily be in "troubleshooter" as it could be in "Dslr" for all I really know....we may not even be here......

If you need further explanation of "A)" here it is....
I grew up in some very bad neighbourhoods and grew up poor.
If word goes out on some mean streets that you are a easy target...you'll wind up with absolutely nothing.....and worse....
we are to some degree products of our environments, but we always have free will to choose better than we are taught....
