Sorry to hear this, mate. It's crap isn't it. I can't think of anything helpful to say, but here's one Pom that's thinking of you.

Thanks mate. What burns me is the stuff that can never be replaced. Ok the insurance will replace most of it but there is still a lot of things that can never be replaced. A lot of my wifes jewelery can never be replaced it was handed down through the family
The police came around and looked around for 10 minutes gave us a reference number for our insurance company and left saying they will keep an eye out for our gear. Gee thanks guys. But what can they do i guess.

Very sorry to hear that. It makes me mad. They have robbed you of memories and associations that insurance cant replace. That is the really nasty element in all this.
Very very sorry.

Sorry to hear this. It's pretty unpleasant.
Our house was broken into when I was a kid and it left a lasting impression on me. I don't take any risks with security now.

I am so sorry to hear that Clarky. The break-in is bad enough, the violation of your home is awful, but the theft of the irreplaceable is heartbreaking. They steal so much more than just objects. They steal memories, and most of all peace of mind.
I know how you feel having gone through something similar a few years ago - except I came face to face with the monster and could do nothing. I just froze. Luckily he just ran and didn't resort to violence.
It took a long time to get over that.

I can sympathise with you Clarky, as I had a similar experience a few years ago. My wife had died just weeks before and the ba**ards took her jewelery inc. wedding and engagememt rings, never got them back but they can't take away the memories that I have.
I hope that you get some if not all of them back, good luck.

I was allready thinking of making pictures of all jewelry in our home and uploading the smaller versions to my gmail account so even if they take my PC and backup drive I would still have the pictures.
I am even thinking of buying a small safe which will be bolted to the floor to put the backup drive in and some other valuable items which are not needed every day.
We have an alarm system in our house, but by the time someone reacts to it the bad guys are allready gone.
Upgrading the mechanical security of your house is by far the best option.

I could'nt agree more Golfdiesel, alarms go off in the street all the time and 99% of them are false so nobody takes any notice of the them, including the thieves. I have security screens on all my windows except the kitchen (which is how they got in) and i thought it was near impossible for anyone to get in that way being 2 floors up and over a set of stairs. But they managed some how. It is indeed sad to have this happen. It is even sadder to realize that the bastards when caught ask for other burglaries to be taken into consideration and effectively they get off scot free with any number of burglaries. Also you as the one who has been done, no doubt get hit later on with a higher insurance premium.
It happened to us when I was a small child and I never forgot how the bastard had a whole string of similar offences "taken into consideration".
The worst thing about it all is that it usually happens to nice people.

The video camera was in a bag in the living room sitting beside my camera bag and by some stroke of luck they left my camera. I still can't believe they did'nt take it
I have lived here 20years and never had anything like this happen before. I am fighting mad and want to get my hands on the ba**ards.
Sorry but needed to blow off steam.
