thanx for the c&c. even with that lens...a little talc, and no touch ups...that is a 45 yr old woman....
that is an unfinished image. I also am playing with an umbrella I modified with some foil to creat a hotspot in the center with softer edges.....
straight from the camera to aperture, with only a vinette added.
now later, when i get some time, I'll touch up the skin, clone out the strap mark, and add a acid edged border that will crop it a little tighter.....and I'll updat it, but for now I got video projects rendering and tying up my computers, except for this older one, that doesn't have access to the aperture libray, or photoshop...
check it again later and see if it improves...

in this case, I liked it, but as you correctly said... tastes is all it is.

I'd love to see that kind of lighting on a low key backdrop....
solid blacks (eye, nose, neck and lip shadows) to solid whites (neck and glasses, and background) do compete with the texture and expression of a wonderful subject... but not enough that I'd call it a flawed......

try:
flipfor mac
ffmpeg
streamclip
there are others you'll have to search for them on versiontracker....
you'll need to find something to convert the files to quicktime mov files is (hopefully) all.

The image quality is fine for general purpose. same for the 18-250.
You buy it you'll love it. goto the store and try one on. fire a few shots, swap out for a 50 1.4, and any ltd, or 100mm macro 2.8.... take your card out of your camera and order some 12x18 or larger prints and compare them.
if you take the 18-250 out on a wedding job, as your main lens...you're banking your reputation on the chance that one of the brides friends, that has a nice camera isn't packing a couple decent primes, because if his/her prints turn out better than yours...good luck getting any referrals from the 70-300 people she had at her wedding.
I'm done. Good luck.
