If a woman that looks like Sophia Loren did, comes along..you immediately start thinking Hair extensions, hair color, breast implants, liposuction, collagen, cheek implants, false eyelashes, and photoshop......
Some of todays stars may well have environmentalists protesting thier funerals, with so much plastic surgery, they should be recycled not buried.....

start off looking at a Canon pro camera and a fast canon 300mm IS lens.
point out how outrageous the price is, do the puppy dog with no bone sad eye thing (you were taught that back in highschool, or did you skip that class?(that was the one day in health/sex ed when the teachers said we could ask questions, and the only thing us boys wanted to know was "How do we get it?")) and as you point out how much more important you wife, and familie's needs are than yours. Then ask to look at the Pentax.

manual focus.
that's what I use 90% of the time.
birds, like people, will tend to sit in the same spot, if it's available.
pick your spot, pre focus, wait for the bird.
getting af on fast moving, tiny subjects is harder.
boils down to how good the lens is and how much light you got.

wedding tips have been extensivley covered.
also read up on flash issues (there's a sticky on the pentax flash units).
Good luck.
see if you can get your hands on a 50mm1.4.

I think you and my mom need to get together for a pint or two, and some laughs, some day....you seem to think alike.
I tried to get Mom to come to a Christmas service the other day. She said she's on the fence..you know, she believes in God...she can accept the concept of the Virgin Birth, but she has doubts that they found three wise men.
Oh well there's always next year!
Merry Christmas!

You already have a pretty good all-rounder lens in the 18-250mm.
My advice is to wait, use what you have, then decide which focal length you might want to use.
The FA50mm f/1.4 is a superb lens that I'm sure you'd be more than happy with for years to come, it is good for portraits, low light shots, flowers, all sorts really. But in a couple of months time you might decide you really enjoy macro photography, and that £350 will come in really useful then to get yourself a great macro lens.
Wait and see...
Dan
also the 16-45 or the 100 mm macro.
