I find it all rather confusing!

I have just had a large bill for an old camera I sent away to New Zealand, to have repaired. They seem to have only charged VAT but It seemed rather steep at £55. As the camera is mine already what would they base the VAT on? The repair was around £80 so 20% would be around £11.

Do you think it might be worth appealing or could I end up even worse off?

Most importantly it has the connections for open aperture metering on the Spotmatic F and ES.

Also the SMC coating.

I'm looking for an SMC Takumar 28mm, to go with my Spotmatic F and ES11.

Wondered If anyone here could part with one?

I'm not too bothered about lightweight multiple layers
The thing about thin layers of clothing is that the air stays trapped better and you can regulate the heat by removing a thin layer at a time. A single thick coat will lose lots of air as you move about, wafting the warm air out through the openings.(sleeves, neck and waist.)

Of course that can help if you have tyronet's problem!

A hood, of course, makes your gear look that little bit bigger, so you don't feel so inferior next to all the Canon guys.
Personally I don't feel inferior with my Pentax, especially with one of the pancake lenses on the front.

Superior, maybe but definitely not inferior at all!

Of course it would usually also be with the hood on as well.

Paramo is good but a jacket and trousers are likely to set you back £200-300.

Most synthetic thermals will work fine, the cheap ones may not look so good, but they will work just as well and who's going to be looking? They work by maintaining a thin layer of warm air close to the body but allow moisture(sweat) to be transported away from the body to the outer clothing, without cooling the surface of the skin. They are about the best value clothing you can buy for warmth.

Mind you, as already said, a windproof layer is still needed. and you may want to add some fleece layers too, several thin layers are better than thick layers. Still dry air is the best insulator and thin layers keep the air still where thick layers tend to flap and move the air.

A few bargains here link

a pity that Pentaxians have to pay the same amount of money, yet they don't get HSM as other brands do.
Don't buy them then, that should bring the price down if they want to sell them!
