Why would they make the K-30 version worse than the K-01 if it is?

I'm glad it's not just me because the old eyes aren't what they used to be!
I have to say while I was trying to choose originally between the K5 and the K-30 this was a big selling point for me. Not now. Luckily an even bigger selling point occurred - the ridiculously low price of a K-30 body!

Well I now have focus peaking on my K-30 and Q. To be honest I'm struggling with it a bit and although I know what I am supposed to be looking for it doesn't seem that clear cut to me. It's not like the highlighted outline snaps in like a more useful beep. It seems difficult to see where there is brighter contrast and where there is an outline. Yes, it clearly shows when you are close to focus but to nail the exact thing you want doesn't seem too obvious to me. Anyone else agree with this, if not a few tips would be good.

So is it 500mm focal length or 500mm 35mm equiv on a Q?

Welcome, even if only for a short while! I've just got my K-30 and it is too early for me to form an opinion on it image quality wise. The K-r was fabulous and the K-30 is supposed to be better. I must say I have found it heavier and slightly more awkward to handle than the K-r but perhaps that comes with time. The slight problem you may run into here is either like me with nothing else to compare my Pentax to or loyality bias. I'm sure folk will try and help honestly, especially those who have experience of the competition.

Sigma 150-500. Pound for pound, they don't come better. Just look at the alternatives at 500mm. Closely followed by Sigma 10-20. I'm either going very long, or very wide, and not much in between
Probably the 150-500 for me so far as well. I'm hoping my new 300 DA* will beat it on IQ but will probably not beat its versatility.
In some ways the 55-300 DAL is up there because it doesn't cost a lot but got me on the road to a more successful pathway of wildlife photography.

Pentax K-r with 18-55 DAL lens. Purchased from SRS last June. Approx 8500 actuations. I can't find a mark or scratch on the body. The LCD has had a screen protector from new and is unmarked except for a tiny scratch in the bottom right corner. I'm struggling to find a fault with it except there are a few small specks of dust visible in the viewfinder itself which of course have no effect on the image. It will be sent in its original box with the CD's, USB lead and power lead unopened, (Not required by me as upgraded from K-x). Pentax battery and charger, body cap, lens front and rear caps and Pentax neck strap (attached) It also has the full manual which is in very good condition. The lens has barely been used as I am mainly into wildlife pics and is in pristine condition.
I will also throw in a petal lens hood with rotating flange and a Sandisk 4Gb SD card.
I can take some photos with my Q if required but it seems a pointless exercise unless you don't know what a new K-r and its box look like!
£245 including Royal Mail Special next day delivery.
