What do people think will happen to K3 prices after Christmas? Are they likely to drop closer to the competition (if there is any ?
Or is it likely the PX offer will go and there will be a Ricoh cashback scheme. Any thoughts welcome.

Very interesting, it has something in common the way it works with Imatest, used by EPZ and others for lens testing.

That should do the trick very nicely and produce better results more easily than what we have been doing up to now.

It's worth noting that spurious values do appear and that's a good reason for doing four shots rather than one. As in all experiments, there's a degree of error in the experiment itself.

That's worrying. Does that mean I should take 4 shots of everything in the real world then!

....but there was an enormous gaggle of Canon users at Ashness Bridge.

Hope they didn't jump off when they saw your K3

Can you expand on "noise in good light is different to noise in low light?" Cheers!

I feel that noise at a given ISO is more visible when the light levels are low.

So, if I were shooting at ISO 3200 as you were at 1/8000, I would expect less noise than if I had to use 1/25 to keep the ISO down to 3200.

Maybe there's science behind it. Maybe its nothing more than my own unsubstantiated view
----------------------------------------------------
Well I can substantiate with my own view that it is definitely the case. I don't know if shutter speed has an effect but for any given ISO setting I always see more noise in low light. It would seem logical and I fell I should be able to explain it from a physics standpoint but I can't at the moment!

I always forget to come on to this bit of the forum because it's off the bottom of the page! I thought some of the initial critique was put in a bit of a disparaging way, frankly, but that's the problem when you can't be face to face with the person. I can't really comment on the composition side because I don't know enough about what is expected from a sports shot.
However the hockey shots with the K3 do look a lot crisper and sharper to me, perhaps almost to the point of being unrealistic. I suspect that is to do with the lighting.

They are such great shots Jules. Almost brought tears to my eyes as we had several childhood holidays in the Northern Lakes in the days before it got crowded. Fond memories.

I also had my first experience of the aurora in Iceland in March. I was very pleased with my photos but I wished I could have had your backdrop. It was an organised trip by Reykjavic Tours but they decided the weather would be better near the airport and not in the National Park as planned. I was a tad disappointed but brilliant nevertheless as it was a bit of a bucket list thing for me.

Is that really true? I've always found my large crop of a small part of an image has always looked better than previous cameras I have had with lower mp counts.(For the same size resulting image). So are you saying that a 100% crop of a K5 image will be as good resolution and with the same amount of noise showing as the K3 cropped to 65%? I know the K30 gives better crops than my KM did.

Why not use a real flimsy tripod. This insures there is always some movement. Just walk near it. Then you don't have to switch off the shake reduction.
This may be a great selling argument for flimsy tripods!!
