Well, I've just done as Smeggy suggested and compared the K5IIs and K3 using the DNG files from Imaging Resource.
My process:
* Download the K3hSLI51200NRAD.DNG & K52ShSLI51200NRAD.DNG files
* Import into Lightroom with the "None" profile setting
* Set both Camera Calibration to "Embedded" (important!)
* Adjust the K5IIs image as I would expect for a print
* Copy the Sharpening & NR settings onto the K3
* Export both at 402dpi 18x12" (my ProAM export)
* Load the resultant K5IIs image into PS and add the K3 on a layer above
My results show that the K3 is no worse than the K5 at ISO51200. In some ways it is better in that the grain is finer and there is some extra sharpness. Not a lot in it, but certainly not worse IMHO.
Then I saw you had downloaded different files to me.
I downloaded the DNGs without noise reduction. I stated why I did this before, as I apply noise reduction in Lightroom and not in the camera. Applying noise reduction on top of noise reduction is not a practise I feel is good. * I have NR completely disabled in my K-5s for the same reason.
The files I used were K3hSLI51200NR0.DNG & K52ShSLI51200NR0.DNG and you can clearly see the K-3 a much worse at 51200 than the K-5 ( Hopefully no one will continue to use the erroneous excuse of the subject matter being different sixes, the number of pixels per unit area is the same )
K5 ISO51200 100% no NR

K3 ISO51200 100% no NR

However as I'm someone who does place high important on high ISO performance I can't justify spending a grand on a camera that has worse high ISO performance than the excellent K-5's I already own.
For those that don't shoot at such High ISOs then it ain't a problem. For those that persistently and clearly don't like it when imperfections in Pentax gear are highlighted remember nothing is perfect.[/quote]---------------------------------------------
I wonder why it looks like it is over saturated with cyan in the K3 pics? I imagine that reduced to the same size image there would be little difference in noise. But then that would defeat the object of having 24mp. I nrarely shoot above ISO 800 but then if it was good above that there would be times when I would I guess.

It's a shame the K5 II has been discontinued. I've been using my K200D for nearly five years and the shortcomings in AF and high ISO are making more of an impact in my photography. I'd thought to upgrade to a K5 II in a year or so but now that won't be possible (at least new), and the likelihood of Pentax bringing back upper LCDs and grips for their lower/mid-range bodies is slim. I don't know what the K3 price will be like then, but I don't want 24MP files to have to handle/store.
Sounds like you want a K50 then?

The K3 body only is currently 774 pounds here and that is full RRP.
That's cheaper than the USA.
Best regards
The saving would pay for a 1/3 of my air fare and I could throw in the Perth Test

I would expect the PX trade-in to disappear after christmas as this was probably a sales gimmick all along. The body would have been built to a price point which was/is likely to have been £999 here in the UK. £999 will probably be the 'normal' body only price after christmas and is likely to drop to say £949 by easter..after that...who knows?
As you say, £999 is the real price now as you can trade something worthless to get that. I don't see any price unless below £999 as any sort of real drop in price.
