Thanks for all of the suggestions. I have calibrated my lenses but I think the DA*300 has reverted back to 0, perhaps when I upgraded the firmware. I'm not sure many of the above could cause front and back focusing at the same time, plus perfect images sometimes, but I will try them !

In this shot it is F4. By the way, before anyone says - I wouldn't normally be taking butterflies that wide open! It doesn't alter the fact that the wings are blurred but the petals behind and grass in front are sharper.

I am having a very low success rate in getting K3 + DA*300 images in focus compared to my K30. Probably only 40% in focus. But worse still I can't see why. Take this butterfly shot. It is at 1/4000th sec. I know the DOF is very shallow but it confirmed focus on centre spot on the butterfly's head. I'm getting the same with birds in that when the centre spot lacks contrast it confirms it but then focuses on something nearby instead.
This image is even more confusing in that at first it looks like it has front focused but the rear antenna and edge of back petal of flower are sharper than the front antenna! The combination is stunning when it gets it right but it is getting very frustrating on the number of missed shots the camera is confirming as in focus. Any ideas?

Yes, couldn't really not be. Begrudging undertone at times I thought.
e.g. "It fits nicely in the hand but is considerably heavier than its mirrorless competitors." Well blow me down with a feather!
Exactly. How does it compare to other DSLR's? Are they going to add that line to every DSLR review, from all brands, now?!

Not as easy to put in your pocket as some compacts either Got to be worth knocking a couple of points off for

I think mine does something like that in low contrast situations. It seems to give up and focus on something close by.

I've used them and they were pretty good. Also use their sister company Albeli who are very good value with these sorts of deals.

Thanks for the comments all, but I was just venting my frustration whilst letting you all know about the good price for the K3 ... I didn't expect any replies.

Chris has explained this in his reply and has further explained it in more detail in a PM to myself. I fully accept the explanation and have spoken to SRS this morning. The situation has now been resolved and SRS are again the first company I will look to to buy my Pentax goods. Customer service is first class as I originally thought it was when I first ever used them ... Martin

I'm pleased about that. The service I have had from SRS over the years is such that I would actually pay more to get it from them.(Don't tell Chris )

The focus is ever so slightly off on the bird shot, it is front focussed a tad so this doesn't quite tell us the whole story, but it certainly looks promising. I would like to see some taken with the DA*300!
