Sorry Aiki, I prefer Ralf's original without the crop. From an artistic viewpoint it benefits from the extra space.

I think three of the entries fail to meet the theme of the competition, but then we all see things differently so what do I know?

Lovely crisp pictures Matt - in both senses, quality light and image sharpness. What lens or lenses were you using?

Well done getting these pictures Graham. It was certainly a newsy event in the North East.

My wife. Wouldn't dare wear the hat in front of my daughter.

I love the first one David. I bet it was cold standing on that bridge.

Thanks for your comments. Barrie, it was bloody cold on that bridge but I had the benefit of a silly wooly hat on. Later when I met Irene in the Metrocentre she took one look at the hat and disowned me.

Tonight I went looking for pictures for Ralf's fortnightly competition on the theme of slow shutter speeds. I failed but I came back with some others. Here's a couple of samples. The first is inside the East Campus atrium at Newcastle's Northumbria University, the second a light on the bridge over the Central Motorway which divides the City and East campus sites.

The whole set is superb and sums up winter in a very artistic way.
