You think I spend all my time on here blogging and not out there taking pictures? You'll find far more of my pictures in my portfolio and in the competitions than you seem to have.

Your excellent entry in the textures competiton was one of the images that sprang to my mind when this subject was announced Ted. When I judged that competition I said later I wish I'd given a couple more Highly Commendeds because there were so many very good pictures. Your's was one of these.
I've never seen anything in the rules about not being able to enter the same picture again in another competition but I have noticed the same image come up again on more than one occasion - and no one complained as far as I'm aware.

I understand your point David. But it begs the question what criteria are being used to judge? As this is a photography competition, for me these should be aesthetic first - ie. what makes the best photograph on the theme of suffering, not the subject that is suffering the most.
That's the problem with set subject competitions Andrew. Quite often the best photograph doesn't win (in fact what is the best photo is only the opinion of the judge)
Usually it's the picture that comes closest to the judge's choice of topic, and is also a fine picture that wins. But if the competition were to be judged purely on photographic merit what if Mattox had decided the most competent entry was, say, of the kitten? That was hardly human suffering. Its a fine line and I wonder where it should be drawn?

No disrespect to Aiki's lovely picture of her disappointed daughter or to Mike for his views on it being the best shot in the competition I don't think it came anywhere close to Mattox's choice of Promhandicam's winning entry. A wee bairn crying over chocolate doesn't come close to a disabled beggar in the league of human suffering.

'Do you really have to take pictures all the time?' - that's what my wife keeps saying to me.

Some interesting variations on the original picture and I think they all work in different ways but I would still hang the original on my wall. Titles can be difficult but for an abstract subject such as this you need either a simple straight forward name such as 'Redundant' or 'Abandoned' or a clever arty one with an abstract theme, so abstract I can't for the life of me think of one right now.

Powerful images of this icon setting. My favourite is No. 2 with the silhouetted figure and I also like the reflection shots.

Problems with weekly competitions seem a bit like buses, there are non for weeks on end then they all come together.
This usually happens when someone new or relatively inexperienced happens to win.
If newbies studied the few rules we have before entering they would then be aware of what's expected of them should they win.

Turquoise looks great and I have a sneaking fondness for the red one. Perhaps a tartan version for our Scottish friends?

I agree with all the above comments, except perhaps I wouldn't want to crop anything. I love the symmetry of the picture, the textures and the rusty colours.
