Pentax DA 16-45. For the money it's available at today I doubt that it can be beaten for IQ vs. value for money. Most of my gallery images are with this lens - I never leave home without it. Superb in almost every respect, except when shooting into the sun, which you don't do very often anyway.

Add all the lenses up and the 560mm starts to look reasonable.
I think you must be earning too much money John Most of us would find the cost of the 560mm anything but reasonable!

I have some M42 to K mount adaptors permanently fixed on my older lenses that are pretty tight, but I see this as more of an advantage than a disadvantage as they are firmly attached to the camera with no chance of them coming off. I don't worry too much about it as they don't get stuck at all, they are just a very snug fit.

Hello everyone, just a small problem that I hope someone can assist with. After a recent outing to the Peak District in inclement weather, my K-x let in a little moisture and since then the viewfinder has become cloudy. There's no moisture in the camera now and no detriment to performance but it does make focussing manual lenses more tricky.

I suspect that some moisture got between the viewfinder lenses and I have had the Focussing Screen out to clean in there, but this has made no difference. Can anyone suggest how I could clean this more effectively? Can I take out the viewfinder lens elements?

Many thanks in anticipation of any assistance given.

David

No. 6 is the one for me Carl, it has a superb lead-in and great depth.

Lens arrived today, packed incredibly well and in absolutely mint condition. First impressions are very positive, I think this one is going to get some use!

Many thanks to Anthony for a superb transaction.

Hi Alastair, hope you are well! I cannot confirm the behaviour of K-5 vs. K-x with the Sigma 150-500, but I can give you a direct comparison of the AF performance between the two cameras with both a Pentax 55-300 and a Sigma 50-500.

In both cases, the AF performance on the K-5 is significantly better than the K-x, both in terms of accuracy and speed. If this is true of the K-5 (mk1) I am pretty certain it will be even more pronounced with a K-5 mk2. I notice the biggest improvement with the 55-300 rather than the Sigma, but both are better. Whether a K-5 will meet your expectations is another matter, but upgrading to a K-5 mk2 would probably be more cost effective than changing systems.

Hi Dave, I specifically ordered a Pentax one; not sure why it's not specified now? If you search for 'Aputure Pentax' does that bring up anything?

Edit: This is the type I bought link, but it seems there are no Pentax ones on Amazon anymore - perhaps some new stock will come in soon as it is not long since I bought mine. They are a super bit of kit so I hope you can find one.

Hear Hear! Someone is talking common sense! Well done Warren, a great post and a truly un-biased assessment of why you bought a Pentax DSLR. I hope the camera gives you years of great service and I'm sure it will. I have a K-x that was 2 models previous to the K-30 and I still love it and use it all the time, even though I also have a K-5. There's very little that the K-5 can do that the K-x can't and the image quality still looks great to me. Things naturally progress, but the Pentax way suits me just fine, as it clearly suits you too.

Best wishes
David
