All good shots and very sharp indeed. That camera and lens seem to work well.

After all the discussion and debate in recent weeks about the merits or otherwise of the K-5IIs, here are some actual photos taken with the best of my three cameras!

All were shot yesterday whilst out and about in the wilds of the Derbyshire Peak District at Derwent Edge, the Derwent Valley and Magpie Mine. All are with the Samsung D-Xenon 12-24mm F4 lens; this combination of camera and lens seems to work very well for me.

My laptop is running Windows 8 and IE 10, with all latest upgrades applied and the large view works without issue, so I agree with GlynM that it can't be a general IE 10 issue. I don't have any other suggestions unfortunately, but I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction.

You know I will come Shaun, date permitting. Nice shots, especially considering no filters. I'll let you see some soon from my walk yesterday from 2 locations I think you will want to shoot .

Ever since reverting back to digital SLR's a couple of years ago, I've always used the back button exclusively for focussing, I find that it gives so much more control. I agree with Smeggy on the process of firing the shutter; it should not be a 'press', it should be a gentle squeeze with the breathing paused. You can always 'half-press' the shutter anyway, even if back button focussing is used it does not exclude this method.

It's also important to hold and support the camera correctly and with everything done right it should be possible to get shake-free images at shutter speeds down to about 1/10 or even lower, depending on the lens used.

Prompted by some posts in this topic that indicate Windows 8 may be causing some of us some annoyances / issues, here is a link to a few helpful tips that I hope you will appreciate.

link

One of the reasons I probably don't find it annoying is that I've got it set up the way I want it to work, so for example I don't get the stupid Metro IE Browser Windows, I get the normal desktop ones that we are all used to. I also have it set so I can go straight to the Desktop view after booting up, simply by hitting the 'Enter' key.

Hope this is useful.

It depends on the software you're using Barrie, but there is usually an option to bring up the shadows and control this by varying the range of tones that you apply the adjustment to. This way you can restrict the changes to the darker areas only.

The other way is to work in layers and only change the bits you want to change.

Yes Barrie, that's exactly what I had in mind and you have done an excellent job with it!

Very difficult to get a good shot of these birds due to the black feathers! I like this shot, the only thing it needs is the shadow detail bringing out so the feathers can be seen.

to me it looks like this thread basically came about because some IIs users felt the need to justify the extra expenditure.
My K-5IIs cost me less than a K-5II would have done

So, no need for me to justify anything

I think also that some of the other guys that own a K-5IIs may feel a bit insulted by your comment Mike, it seems as though you are suggesting they didn't know what they were doing and somehow now regret spending the extra money? I think that's frankly rubbish and is no more than an attempt to provoke reactions (looks like you succeeded with me). Just because you own a K-5II and not a K-5IIs it doesn't mean you automatically know best.

I sincerely applaud Nigel for the work he has done here in an attempt to provide some science and clarity to the discussions, it's a shame that some have to bring it down to the level that you have in your post above.
