Gallery Enlargement

For some days now double-clicking any of the photos in the site gallery, or any of those in my Portfolio, has failed to to produce the expected enlargement which normally appears in a separate window.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

PS And what's the Chinese?/Japanese? writing down the right hand side of the home page?

It is still working fine for me.

In the past when I have had problems like this (and I'm using Firefox) I found scrubbing the browser cached web content or doing a clean-up (using ccleaner) usually fixes the problem.

I don't see any Chinese?/Japanese? writing down the right hand side of the home page but that is possibly because I am using the adblock plus plugin with my browser.

The larger image will only display if the uploaded image is large enough to support it. Have you uploaded some smaller images?

Glyn and John, most of the images in my Portfolio would normally enlarge into a separate window, now none will.
I am beginning to suspect that the problem is a compatibility one connected with the 64bit I.E. Version 10 which Microsoft dumped on me five days ago.

My bespoke W.7 computer was delivered with both the 32 and 64 bit I.E. programs installed (but presumably versions 9 or earlier), the first on the toolbar, the second had to be activated from the programs list.

Unfortunately, and rather unhelpfully, Microsoft seem to have deleted both of the original I.E. programs.

I shall have to see if the company that supplied the computer kept a detailed record of the program versions they installed so that I have the option to re-install.

I have checked the site on my old laptop, which runs Vista and I.E.8, and everything works as normal.

So be warned!!

I don't like coincidences so I suspect you are correct that the problem is related to the upgrade.

However I have just had a look at your rather splendid gallery portfolio using IE 10.0.6 on my 64bit Windows 8 machine and the step to larger images works fine. So I suspect its an installation or set-up problem rather than just a general IE 10 problem.

Having opened one of your pictures, but before enlarging it, if you put the mouse pointer over the picture you should see the link to the larger version appear at the bottom left of the window:




Does your IE 10 get that far?

Another test would be to type in the link in the above picture and see if you get to the large version of your most recent picture. If that works then it suggests that your IE is not seeing, or is ignoring, the link attached to the standard sized image which might be some sort of security setting issue. I'm not very good at IE problems perhaps someone else can help.

You could always try installing another browser, like Firefox or Chrome. I run two different browsers on my PC without problem and make Firefox my default only resorting to IE if Firefox has a problem with a particular page.

My laptop is running Windows 8 and IE 10, with all latest upgrades applied and the large view works without issue, so I agree with GlynM that it can't be a general IE 10 issue. I don't have any other suggestions unfortunately, but I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction.

I'm using IE10 and Win7 64 bit and the larger image opens fine, so I don't think that can be the source of the problem.

Glyn, it seems you had the right of it - an installation problem, the main effect of which was that many links simply did not any longer work, including most of those on Microsoft's download site! (Think about that!)

However I was eventually able to uninstall IE 10 which meant that IE 9 (32 & 64 bit) automatically reappeared and all is well again.

And of course I have had to disable all auto updating.
