Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could answer a query about Adobe Bridge CS3 and K-3 DNG files. I have Bridge (exact same version, installed from the same disk) installed on two PC's, my old laptop which runs Windows XP service pack 3, and my new laptop which runs Windows 8.1. The program will not display K-3 DNG thumbnails on the new laptop and also does not give me the option to open the files in Adobe Camera RAW, but on the old laptop the thumbnails are visible and so is the Adobe Camera RAW option. This confirms it's not an issue with Adobe Bridge, does anyone know why this happens?

Regards
David

Very creative and cleverly done, high quality!

The only one that doesn't particularly catch my eye is #4, but it ties the others together as a documentary shot.

I may not be understanding your comments clearly, but why is it wrong to use centre focus and then recompose?
Probably because the DOF is so shallow when using wide apertures that re-composing can alter the lens to subject distance and make the intended focal point go out of focus.

Fabulous lens and great value at £49. If you have a K-01, this lens was made for it!

Have you tried the jpegs with the variable white balance areas wotsit yet? and if so how does that work for landscapes:

Stu
Hi Stu, yes I have the WB set most of the time to the 'Multi Auto' setting and always shoot RAW and JPEG at the same time (Jpeg in 'Natural' setting). The WB seems to work great, it's more accurate than the K-5iis and I don't feel the need to change it from this setting, whereas on the K-5iis I have it set at 'Daylight' and dial in one step towards 'Amber' as sometimes the images can look a bit cool in tone.

Sincere thanks for so many comments on this set, some great feedback too.

I'm after getting a lot of these "light beam" type shots and I'd be interested in your processing here, as these look pretty darn good to me
Nothing out of the ordinary Jules. I was lucky in that particular location yesterday as the sun was perfectly positioned to keep dipping in and out of the clouds skimming the fell tops and the light beams were very pronounced. I always process in Adobe Camera RAW first (exposure, fill light, clarity and sometimes a tiny bit of sharpening) before finishing in Photoshop, some dodging and burning, raise up the shadows a little, then contrast and sharpening.

First one is delightful.
Amazed that was with the DA L 55-300!
I'm always amazed by this lens too Matt, I never leave it at home and use it a fair amount for landscapes where it excels as it is so sharp and the colour rendering is so good.

These are all well-seen and beautiful. The last one's sky looks a bit of an odd blue, is it just me?
Well spotted Mark! This one was a difficult shot, being right into the light, under-exposed so as not to burn out the sky too much and the result was a very washed-out blue. I've tried to bring it back but the shade is all wrong. Never mind, nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Exif on all such sets would be nice for us to learn more. Am I right in assuming you can not view it on here as in the Gallery?
I'm not sure Bill, someone will know? You can get the Exif on three of these as I've also posted them in the Gallery, albeit one is a black and white, but the EXIF will still be shown.

one point about #2 - it seems that the land is generally slightly dark for the conditions prevalent in the sky. Otherwise, they do convey to me the feeling of actually being there.

Philip
Hi Philip, thanks for the observation, I always try my best to process images to make them look as I saw them at the time, this is not always easy! On the second one, the darkness on the land is representative of the scene at the time, the light from the sun was falling on the lake behind the trees and the fells were in relative darkness. There was a little weak light falling on the path, but not full sun. I sat in this exact spot for around 20 minutes waiting for the light to fall on the fells but it never happened!

Once again, thank you all for the useful comments.

Thank you to you all for the comments. The first one is possibly my favourite, it was shot with the K-5iis and DA L 55-300, set at 55mm. That lens never ceases to amaze me - what a bargain.

" Gods Country" did you sneak back to Scotland for this shot David ?, nice set of images, favorite being Old Log, need to ask the wife first about hanging it on the wall

Ps took my first shots yesterday with the new K511s

Bill
Not quite Bill, it is the Lake District, so not far from Scotland but not quite there! I hope you get on with the K-5iis, I can honestly say it is a fabulous camera for all kinds of work, especially landscapes.

As above, great perspective but I think Mike has a point, it just needs a little something to lift the levels a bit and give it a bit more punch.
