I've noticed that magenta cast too using certain old M series lenses with various bodies when an otherwise identical photo taken with another lens did not show that cast. No idea what causes it but it wasn't the camera. I believe I note that you too use several M series lenses and they could well be the cause of your magenta cast.
Some of the 'M's' do over-emphasise magenta and purple tones. My M28 F3.5 most definitely has a tendency to do this, but as you say John it's nothing to do with the camera, it's a trait of the lens.

I still dislike the colour rendering of the K-5's, with their tendency to a magenta cast. That must be a peculiarity of the Sony sensor since the K-3 is the same.
Not sure that this is 100% correct. I think those who have used a K-3 alongside a K-5 or K-5II will know that the colour rendering on the K-3 is different to that on the K-5. It produces a warmer image straight from the camera and I haven't noticed any magenta cast with it. I did notice that images from the K-5 were sometimes a little cool, which is why I always shot with a slight bias to Amber on the WB. With the K-3 this is not necessary.

I'm calling this image 'The Tripod'. It's got nothing to do with the actual camera tripods, work it out for yourselves!

Looking at some actual facts from DXOmark we get the following:-

In order of K3 K5iis K5 K30
Landscape Dynamic Range(Evs) 13.4 14.1 14.1 13.0

Sports (Low LightISO) 1216 1208 1162 1129

Portrait colour depth was virtually identical for all models.
Now I don't know how good, how accurate or how meaningful these results are. But to me they look like in the real world you would need some very stressed conditions to see a difference. You would have to decide for yourselves whether the 24mp and other features are worth it for virtually the same spec in the above areas.
It will be easy for me to move up from the K30 for my predominantly wildlife shooting.
Apart from the small improvements in all of the above I will get:-
1. Much quieter shutter
2. Faster burst
3. More cropping ability
4. Greater resolution with no AA filter
5. Faster more accurate AF (Most users say this)
6. Better tracking of moving subjects (Most users say this)
7. IR remote on the back

plus other useful features not on the K30, so easy for me
Regarding the greater resolution Dave, I've really noticed this today with some landscape shots taken with the Pentax-M 28mm F3.5. This is a very sharp lens which really shines with the additional resolution of the K3's sensor and I can immediately see a difference between shots taken with the same lens on the K-5iis and the K3. An example is the image below, bear in mind this is at reduced resolution for the Forum, on the original the level of detail is quite something and I think this would print to a very large size with no issues. For birding this resolution would bring some big benefits when cropping, or when printing full size images at large print sizes.

Steve have you used the k-5 mk-ii and mk-iis side by side?
The K-5 and the K-5ii have the same resolving capabilities as they both have the AA filter.
Hi Steve, I tend to agree with yo on K-5 vs K-5iis, but Gary was asking about the difference between the K-5II and K-5IIs side by side?

Hi Nigel

Please accept my apologies and ignorance about the curved building! I clearly know nothing about the architecture in this part of the world!

All very nice, I think #2 is my favourite. I agree with ChrisA in that the third one looks a little too cropped at the bottom.
