Well it seems to be working OK John! I live right next to Rother Valley as you are aware and I know it like the back of my hand. I must say I have never seen so many Dragonflies as you seem to have to have seen today! The weather was perfect for them and you have taken full advantage.

The third one is my favourite, but they are all good shots.

Thanks for the 'thanks', you are most welcome.

This response Ken just underlines the feelings that were on the Forum some weeks / months ago and is the reason why so many members are disgruntled with the Mods. It was unhelpful and aloof and did not offer any alternative advice to Andrew as to what he should be doing instead to get the best performance.

Andrew is not a professional film maker and was looking for some friendly advice. What he got was a bit sharp, a bit rude and not at all helpful. I don't see any apologies since either.

Very dispiriting I'm afraid.

Unfortunately Andrew I don't have the expertise to offer you any advice on this subject but I can see there have been a couple of suggestions given.

Number three is superb, the first two didn't really grab me but this one does.

You must have done the exact same walk as I did a couple of weeks back Drew - Redmires to Stanage Edge across Hallam Moor?

The second one for me is the best, it's a shame you didn't have a Polariser or a ND Grad with you as the results would have been even better. However, the second in particular has bags of atmosphere and is a delight to look at.

IC also like the 5th one the best. It is the strongest composition of all the five images and also has the best light.

Thank you for posting these Nigel and for giving us such detailed responses to the comments made.

Another good, strong set Simon, especially the first five. I love the one in the gravel and the first shot too stands out.

Nice shots, but the fourth one really stands out. It conveys a certain 'feel' and works well as a documentary image of the building and a great shot in its own right.

I like this Ken, I agree that it doesn't need the colours. You've nailed the composition and the exposure, the result is a very pleasing image.

Number 3 for me is crying out for some 'room to breathe' - it is a very tight composition and doesn't have anything to let the eye wander over it. I also think it suffers in the same way as number 1, in that it looks very flat.

Number 4 is much better, well composed with the rocks in the foreground adding just enough interest. I don't think it needs any straightening as the coastline to the left is not on the horizon and therefore would not be completely flat. I wouldn't crop it square, I would leave it just as it is. The colours for me are not quite right though, there looks to be a hint of over-saturation and too much cyan? Of course I wasn't there at the time so this may be wide of the mark.

A good fourth image Nigel and one which makes the best of the location and the conditions you were working with.

David
