Thanks all

Im definitely going to get the 300 when i can find a good copy or there is some kind of deal around. Why do the second hand ones fetch soo much money!
Because it's a great lens! Supply and demand.........

That's a priceless image Simon, a perfect candid which no doubt brings back a lot of memories for you. There is no other comment necessary on this.

Looking forward to your five shots Simon, I've always been a fan of your work. The first one certainly hits the viewer between the eyes, the sharpness of the Sunflower works really well, colours are great too. Personally, I would have liked to see the background more blurred, this is not a criticism, just my personal taste.

I think these are excellent Bret, they capture the night-time atmosphere brilliantly well.

Really excellent shots Carl, very easy one the eye. There are a couple of things you could do next time on the night shot:

- use a smaller aperture to get starbursts; this has the downside of requiring a tripod and longer shutter speed so you would lose the crispness in the water

- Make sure the reflected curve of the bridge is included in the bottom of the frame

Excellent shot, no critical comments from me. This is one genre of photography I haven't tried yet, I must give it a go.

I love the third image and find it works better for me in B+W than it does in colour. I think the high contrast mono makes more of the shapes and textures than the colour one does.

I'm not so taken with the fourth shot, it seems to lack a little impact and drama. It also looks a little soft, not sure if this is the lens that has caused this effect? Not a bad image by any means but not in the same league as the first three shots.

I like the first one Phil, it is a good candid and works very well for me. I also like the second shot, details and conversion are good, but for me it is always hard to really hit the spot with a landscape image that has limited depth. The problem with this one for me is that there is no distance, no details fading into the horizon due to the angle of the shot and the towering summit which doesn't afford any view beyond. I know this would not have been possible with this particular subject but nevertheless the appeal is probably limited by this factor.

4 is nice, probably not as striking as 3, but a good picture nonetheless. Number 5 is in a different league altogether, this is the stand out shot of the series and is definitely worthy of hanging on a deserving wall. I don't know what it is, but it doesn't matter as it is such a striking image.
