Day and Night

Have finally got around to sorting my night shots from last weekend's get together in Newcastle. The light had been pretty poor all day until we were walking back down the quayside when at last our luck changed.

Myself, Barrie and Stan stayed in to the evening so I decided to return to the same spot after dark. I didn't manage to 100% match the same shot but it is close.

This was pretty much my first attempt at an urban waterfront after dark so very much a learning curve for me and something I definitely want to try again

As always C+C welcome

Carl

I think you have pretty much nailed it Carl. The curves, particularly in the night shot, lead you all over the image to take in the detail and changing hues.

I love the straight lines of reflected light in the foreground of the night shot as well but, being picky, I might be tempted to tone down the orange line across the corner

Really excellent shots Carl, very easy one the eye. There are a couple of things you could do next time on the night shot:

- use a smaller aperture to get starbursts; this has the downside of requiring a tripod and longer shutter speed so you would lose the crispness in the water

- Make sure the reflected curve of the bridge is included in the bottom of the frame

Cheers

Thanks David. This was taken on a tripod - 1 second exposure at f/4. I couldn't get the whole reflection from that vantage point and was trying to mirror my daytime shot.

I will share others that I do have the whole of the reflection. Point taken on aperture - in my excitement I forgot about that. In a way, I am not disappointed at this - it gives me an excuse to go and do it again - really enjoyed the experience

The night time colour shot of the Millennium Bridge is an absolute stunner Carl.

Totally agree. Must get down there again, maybe mid week when it's "quiet"
