Picked up my Sigma 150-500 lens up yesterday, Lincoln LCE most helpful and did me proud even gave me a Sigma DG UV filter in with deal. Tried it outside today at 4pm but had to have ISO at 800 so images very very grainy. However found it focused fast and IS seemed OK as long as shutter speeds above 1/60sec at 500mm (not much chance of that this afternoon) it was almost totaly dark by 4.30. Proper test soon I hope. Will update and post images when I have something I dare show.

Having no HSM lenses I am going to be on a steep learning curve and appreciate your valued knowledge. You seem to have had a a lot of experience with these OS systems and I will be putting all your knowledge to good use when I get my lens. I will let you know how I get on when I get it, next week I hope
Thanks for the advice as without your and other Pentax users info I would not have dared buy the lens.
Kindest regards David

I would think the two systems would count each other out but I have heard and Olympus owner say he leaves both systems on and gets better results!!!!! Personally I doubt it as the makers and experts say dont run the two together. I may try it myself as I'm very likely to forget to switch the Pentax system off occasionaly.

Tried one on a Nikon at LCE, the images look pretty good on my PC, also bearing I wasnt confident handling the lens or the camera and only a few minutes in poor light to test it. Think I will be ordering one Monday, cant wait to get it on my K7. Thanks for all the advice
Kind Regards
David

Smashing and does everything else function as expected? I understand that the camera should be set to AF and then choose AF/Manual on the lens is that correct?

After much soul searching and good advice from Penatx forum members I am about to take the plunge and buy a long Sigma lens. Before I do can anyone confirm if the Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3 DG OS HSM lens is fully comptable with a K7. A forum search suggests that DSLR's after the K100 will work OK but I havent seen any comfirmation. I wonder what happens to the Pentax mechanical drive AF, does the Sigma AF take over or do you have to manual focus?

Pentax will have it's problems as will all manufacturers, we will see more of them here than the NikCanOlyPraSon users. When I worked for a Ford dealer I became obsessed with Ford problems and Fords short comings, I totaly forgot about the benefits. At the same time my colleagues at other Dealers were tearing their hair out about their chosen manufacturer problems, however I didnt see it. Lets enjoy and discuss and not become dejected. And yes lead free solder is more brittle and has caused problems in cars.

I dont see why the K5 should be any different to the K7. My K7 has surprised me, there have been times when I’ve doubted its accuracy especially when taking landscapes which look level but in actual fact aren’t. However every time I test it on a level surface it is absolutely spot on accurate.

At it`s current price you will not get anywhere near 500mm with any other option, where are you based? if anywhere near Chester am happy to let you have a play with mine.

In test`s I have tried the lens OS is a good as my K5 SR.
I know some folks may shout at this, but TBH I frequently leave them both on, does not seem to make any difference, have not found any observable evidence that they may cancel each other out, as alleged by others.

Hi Dave
Thanks for the offer but I live in Lincolnshire so a bit of a long trip to try your lens. However the Lincoln branch will let me try a Canon/Nikon version on one of their cameras so I may take them up on the offer. They say they will match Ffords http://www.ffordes.com/product/10072316352212
price for as long as Sigma have stocks at the new low price.
Thanks again for the kind offer
David

has anyone got or tried the Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 APO DG HSM OS
Do a forum search, you will find lots of very happy owners, including me.
At the current prices it is a steal.

Yup I had done a forum search and yes some good and some poor views found. However I think many seem to be about the early versions without Sigma Optical Stabilization.
Thanks for all your views upto now, its making me more comfortable to invest in one. Problem is, if I'm not happy with it I will not be able to buy another so please keep the info coming
