You know the DA55-300 is 5.8 at 300mm, why not try one then if you realy need f4 you can start saving.

For me both images need tidying up. there is a black mark on one of the seed heads in both shots, this is distracting. Also the second shot which looks like it may be a reversed crop of the first one has a bit of dead "stuff" hanging off the right hand side poppy; this can be seen in the first image also. To be brutal, it`s all a bit "ok" but not particularly well done or interesting. Sorry.

Perhaps some have more value than others. Lily has a great expression, and makes me smile, yes the composition could be improved, but as you say, it`s a grab shot.
Unfortunately the other two do nothing for me.

The one good thing to come out of the recent budget is the fact that over the next few years there will probably be less Police Officers on the street. Thank the Lord.

Impressive, the 4th shot really shows the potential of the lens, and it`s not a bad photo either . Can feel the bank card starting to twitch

So to get back to the C&C,
For me it looks like a few shots I have taken lately, conforms to the rule of thirds, has an interesting sky, but that is about all it has. It is an ok shot, but nothing special. I think the real lesson to learn in photography is not the "physics", aperture, iso, speed, dof, etc, but what will make a good photo. To do this one has to born with the talent, or learn it by taking lots of shots and seeing why they work, or not. In this case it does not work because it is not different to the many, possibly thousands of similar shots we can find of the same type. I have a very famous print of half dome (Ansell Adams) in my house, despite going to the same location and spending several hours with a DSLR , and hours later with PS I can not replicate it. I can get a sharper, more contrasty, and technically better image, but it is not the same.

compatible with the shake reduction (most important, I'm over 75!)
Welcome to the forum Fabson, I can sympathise with you here; because I can only hold my K20 single handed, shake is an issue. I have used both the Tammy 70 -300 and the Pentax 55-300 extensively, I sold the Tammy. The Pentax is by far the better lens in terms of IQ and handling. I believe there is now a "L" version which may save you a few quid if money is realy tight. But in any case go for the Pentax. Both lenses work with the SR, it`s in body.

Nice colors Pete, so much better than your last lot, perhaps a touch sharper on the head would make it stand out. Is there a reason why you are only shooting JPEG:
