Comparison of Sigma 150-500 OS HSM with F1.7x teleconverter.
1) 500mm, straight jpeg, matrix metered, no cropping or manipulation;
2) 500mm + 1.7x teleconverter, same camera settings;
I even left the dust spot in
Apart from a slight over-exposure it seems pretty good to me.

Have you tried the 1.7x with the D-FA 100mm macro?
Possibly a more interesting thing was using the 1.7 with my Sigma 150-500 OS HSM, it worked absolutely fine, which i was not expecting.
