I had the same problem with the K5. Had to pre-focus.

I don't tend to use filters for anything, but my understanding of UV and polarising filters (especially the latter) is they increase contrast by cutting out the scattered light. So it is very possible that the lens could be improved by a piece of flat glass

You'll need lots of light or a flash. Maybe a remote flash behind a sheet?

Interesting...
No idea about that, looking forward to hearing the answer.
The lens produces quite washed out images by modern standards, but getting the light behind you makes a big difference. Maybe the filter would help with this.

What is it that makes the camera so wonderful?
Do we have to start all over again?
Looking forward to hearing your own thoughts when you've had another go Dobson

I'm on 1.03, never had any problems.

Thrifty, definitely (any number of old lenses, toilet roll tubes, wires, insulating tape, cut up milk bottles and pringles tubes littering my office).
Artisan (never happier than when I'm on the floor or spinning around dragging the shutter).
Pixel peeper (would quite like at least one part of the shot to be utterly perfect)

I had completely forgotten about the shutter slap; that used to really annoy (and embarrass) me.
I would definitely recommend upgrading to a K5, but in hindsight I would have kept the K10D.
My first upgrade was to a K7 and that was a genuine disappointment. K5 - different league.
K10D was so well built. Absolutely bullet-proof, whereas the K5 just doesn't give me the same confidence to just stuff it in the bag.

Punchy images straight out of the camera and ergonomics that haven't been beaten IMO.
I think I might buy another for macro and studio; any situation where I can be sure of good light, it just works....
Life's too short for all this PP.
What do you think? Rose-tinted memories?
