For those of you interested in the Pentax AF 1.7 tele converter, this is the original thread. Ignore the stuff about the 300 - I'm keeping that

If I take my 645n and lenses over on a longish holiday and swap the body for a digital so I can crack-on with my holiday, they would have to be pretty eagle eyed and mean to seize it?

Fabulous! Lovely, natural and naturally sharp.
Good to see the 1.7x getting some use.
If anyone wants one, I'm selling mine

Can someone explain the procedure/pitfalls of going somewhere cheap like USA or (you tell me), buying something, throwing away the packaging, using it on your hols and just bringing it home?
Or maybe getting someone who lives there to bring it back next time they come home to their family?

I forgive my DFA100mm 2.8 macro for being noisy every time I get home and look at the pictures. It is utterly brilliant.
It is as awesome turning and taking a shot of the children, or a deer, as it is down in the undergrowth.
It's by far, my sharpest lens wide open. Plus it has an aperture ring.
I will never sell it and if it gets damaged I'll find the same to replace it.
I could loose any of my other lenses without much regret. Well, maybe the 12-24 would have to be replaced if I lost it.

The Blue tit is gorgeous, but I think you need to revisit it and back off the sharpening on his head. At least for web viewing

You'll need to consider flare. Some lenses really hate studio lights - you can't always shield the lens from the hair/rim lights or even bright backgrounds.
I'm finding the 35mm macro is performing brilliantly in tight spaces.
Wide lenses like the 12-24 are fab for interesting and sometimes quite wild perspective.
When I had the 16-45. it was nearly always all I needed in the studio.
If I have room, I use the 50-135.
Definitely buy an old 50 like the 1.7, at £30 it's a no-brainer for those creative DOF shots but otherwise the 18-135 would be perfectly capable and extremely convenient (assuming it can handle flare).

I have this lens. It is absolutely always in my bag. It's awesome.
Great studio lens - longggg legs
Great for architecture and landscapes. Skies look amazing and horizons stay straight!
Don't be put off by the Samsung badge, this is the same as the Pentax.
If I had to have two lenses only, it would be this and the 100 macro.
