If we are talking about the same thing (excuse my ignorance) but 2 sold this week on E-Bay Aust for about $150 or about 60pound one was a
2X KAX Pentax Macro Teleplus AF MC7 Japan Auto Focus PK and the other was a MC4 not sure what the difference is ???
The two you mentioned are for use with autofocus lenses, but will not make manual lenses autofocus.
Pentax brought out the 1.7x convertor when they first brought out AF cameras, so that AF could be used with the vast number of manual lenses already in use.
The MC7 and MC4 designations refer (I believe) to the number of elements used to make the convertor lens - the more lenses the better (within reason).

Actually I have the 1.7x AF converter that doesn't get nearly enough use...
If anyone wants to buy it at anywhere near that price, they are more than welcome
Might eBay it in a few weeks.... to help fund a few things

I was looking at a 50mm 1:2.8 Macro Ex Sigma today. What do you guys think of this lens as first choice : :
Also a Tamron AF aspherical XR LD (IF) 28-300 1:3.5-6.3 Macro (what a mouthful ) I would prefer to get Pentax only but they appear to be hard to get hold of on the second hand market.
Any opinions greatly appreciated
I use the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 macro, and it's a lovely lens. I would expect the 50mm to produce just as good images, but the disadvantage of this lens would be that you'd need to be much closer to your subject (which could be a problem if you're trying to get shots of insects).
The Tamron won't give you anything like lifesize reproduction, so it's not a proper macro lens, just one that focuses closer than you might expect. I'm sure you'd be soon disappointed if the macro bug gets you like it has me.
Build quality of both the Sigma EX range lenses that I have is superb.

Note this doesn't have the controlable power that George rightly points out is a bonus, and I have to say that I have no idea what the guide number is, but would guess 30 from the model number.
Oh, just checked back on the ebay page and saw you got it!
I keep being tempted by the AF360, but really can't justify it for the amount I'd use it - the Centon works perfectly for my macro stuff, as well as the odd social function!
Have fun,

I use one of these and it does me fine, even when the in trickier situations - it only takes a couple of test shots to sort your exposure and then you're off!
Only takes 2 seconds to recharge to full power too, which is nice.
