Not really. It was just because you were shooting from very low level - either you were lying on the floor, or standing on the street looking up at the raised pavement. And Penzance is the only one I know of.

Shake reduction does work - I took a shot with my 50mm lens at 1/3 second the other day and it was sharp.

Haven't been there since September last year, had the feeling Jessops was fairly near the top of the High Street - good enough reason to come back to Cornwall, just to check on your measurements!
