Unlike Daniel, I couldn't just leave it sitting in a box, or worse, the bin.
At the moment it's in the 1.4's box, in the loft. One day I'll dismantle it, watch the tiny springs ping around the room, and spend a couple of hours on my hands and knees... But at the moment I can honestly say I don't miss it.

I used the A version of this lens for some time, and it is lovely and especially good for use on extension tubes, but a fault, and the longing for AF, led me to get the FA50 1.4. However, if the aperture ring hadn't got stuck, I'm fairly sure I'd have saved some money.

Haven't done any side by side tests, so can't say whether one's sharper than the other, but I do like the 1.4

I had a very quick flick through the mag in the library the other day, but didn't notice that test, wish I had.

Surprised he didn't test the Canon 100mm too. Perhaps he did, but Canon paid him not to publish the result. Was there a reason given why these three were chosen? I'm sure lots of people would have liked to have see the results from the Tamron too.

Well it worked fine for me, did everything I asked of it. Would still be using it if I hadn't upgraded the motherboard to one with a pci-e graphics slot.

No, no nice A primes. I do have a Sigma 24mm f/2.8 knocking about which I don't use, forgot that I had it until I saw it on the shelf this morning, worked nicely on my istD.

Or there's my 50mm f/1.7 going spare if you fancy a repair job.

Actually I'm putting a few thing on ebay, open to offers on any of these:

MZ-5n - flash doesn't raise by itself; the spring's gone, but charges okay so can be propped up if needs be. Otherwise good condition.

Pentax FAJ18-35mm f/4-5.6 - Autofocus, covers 35mm, with caps and hood

B-DG1 Vertical Grip for *istD

Sigma 24-70mm f/3.5-5.6 UC - Autofocus 35mm lens, with caps and hood

Tokina AT-X SD 80-200 f/2.8 - Manual focus, trombone style zoom/focus. Two slight marks on front element, no visible effect on images. PK mount. Hood and (somewhere I have the) caps. Finish a bit worn.

nVidia GeForce FX5500 256Mb 8x AGP Graphics Card (3d Fusion brand)

All in good condition, some signs of use but not looking tatty. Have pics of all these if you want a look. Will be ebaying them in the next few days.

Cheers,
Dan

You can't use 'Digital ICE' or whatever the dust removal software is with B&W or Kodachrome as it thinks the emulsion is dusty and tries its best to remove it. Or something. Think that's all film scanners, not just these models.
