According to George it was yesterday evening, I got on okay yesterday morning, but didn't try again until this morning.

This morning I've been getting lots of error messages though, critical errors about the database being unavailable, and it's being incredibly slow for me at the moment.

Nice shots CLarky, pity the flash didn't fire properly.

Did you notice he's only got seven legs, and two of those look 'newer' than the others. Wasn't aware of them growing replacements for lost ones, but it may be possible.

Weather's bringing the bugs out over here now, plenty of butterflies about, and beetles in the garden - probably worth having a sticky thread called 'Clarky and Dan's Bug Shots'.

I would keep them both in case you have trouble with either of them!

I did a quick test when I first got my FA50mm 1.4, concentrating on the bokeh more than the sharp areas. Results posted on this thread:

The 1.4 definitely has smoother rendition of out of focus areas, so for me that makes it preferable to the 1.7, however, do your own tests, and see what aspects of which lens you prefer, then make your choice.

Of course, it might seem a bit silly to buy a lens one weekend, then sell it straight away (unless you got it for an absolute bargain). But then it also might seem silly to sell a lens, just because you've bought a different one that may or may not be 'better'.

I'd hang onto them both, and save the selling of one for a rainy day.

Will do. Will be putting various bits on ebay over next month or so, some nicer than others. I'll let everyone know as and when.

If i am not mistaken our good and generous friend Daniel Bridge has one he is thinking of parting with.
Generous? Definitely good! I'll be putting mine on ebay at some point, but I'm waiting on stock of the DA* 300mm at the mo. In the meantime, I have another K mount somewhere if you'd rather not be swapping the mount between lenses all the time. If I can find it I'll pop a note in the classified section here, although there is (was?) already another one there.

My KA one will be on ebay because I'd rather market forces set the price. I know what I'd be happy with, but I suspect it may make more than that, and I have an expensive lens to pay for! I just don't think I'd have the gall to ask what it might make.

...the SMC Pentax-FAJ 75-300mm...has no silly macro switches...
But it probably doesn't do 1:2 macro like the Sigma, does it?

thanks John, I knew I could rely on a candid opinion like that...
To be honest, the day John says "I prefer this Sigma/Tamron lens to my Pentax one" is the day I shave my head! (And when I say he says it, I mean says it and means it )
