Pentax 75-300mm vs Sigma 70-300mm

Was this the DG Macro - the cheaper version? and not the APO?
From past experience the APO version of the 70-300 had the upperhand in IQ terms on the DL/non-APO...
but at least it was better than the 100-300 UC...
What do you reckon to the FAJ John? Do you like it? My GF's sister has the GX-10 and found the SA 50-200 too short at the long end and wants a longer reach. I see that SRS are still selling the 75-300 and might recommend that she buys that if the DA 55-300 is out of reach pennies-wise.

It wasn't the APO version, just the ordinary DG lens.
We like the SMC Pentax-FAJ 75-300mm because it's compact, has no silly macro switches and performs very well for its price.
It is sharp, not bitingly sharp, but the appearance of the images is very pleasing.
What needs to be watched is the fact it's a very long lens, so camera shake and atmospheric haze can easily take the edge of the image. This would equally well apply to any lens of this focal length.

thanks John, I knew I could rely on a candid opinion like that...
you know, you can pixel peep for all you like, but as long as you like the results, that's what really counts...
Thanks again

But it probably doesn't do 1:2 macro like the Sigma, does it?...the SMC Pentax-FAJ 75-300mm...has no silly macro switches...

To be honest, the day John says "I prefer this Sigma/Tamron lens to my Pentax one" is the day I shave my head! (And when I say he says it, I mean says it and means it )thanks John, I knew I could rely on a candid opinion like that...

Again a messy switch arrangement for Macro, which I don't like, but this lens seems to be better than the Tamron tested previously.
The Sigma and the Pentax performed in an almost identical manner at a variety of distances and apertures. Absolutely nothing in it.
