I would do it for you, but I don't want to ruin the sense of achievement you'll get when you do it yourself!

I think I gave someone on here (I forget who) £60 for my PKA mount, and consider that I paid about the going rate.
They are one item which only seems to get more expensive.
The Pentax 1.7x AF converter is in a similar position price-wise (at least it was when I sold mine), in that they're around £200 now, but only £70 two or three years ago.
Luckily I bought both the AD2 mount and the converter at the right times.

The zimbio test chart has too much "crap" on it. You can't know where the sensor is focusing if it is not lined up properly with the viewfinder indicator, so you can't adjust the focus properly. If you are so inclined, you could look at "Yvon Bourque blog" for very well made charts for focus adjustments. His charts are also endorsed by Ned Bunnell (president of Pentax USA).

With film, the surface of the 'sensor' is matt, so non-reflective. A digital sensor has a shiny piece of glass over it which could bounce back some of the light that was projected onto it. This reflected light could then bounce back off the rear element of the lens and produce a ghosted image on the sensor.
I have used various non-digital lenses without seeing any evidence of this, but perhaps your lens has just the right curvature on the rear element to focus the reflection into an image, the blue-ish dot. :
Could be the reason, may well not be! Does the rear element have a concave curve to it?

There is a rumour mentioned in this weeks Amateur Photographer magazine that Jessops are looking to hook up exclusively with one large manufacturer although Jessops deny this.
The article mentioned Jessops has strong links with Canon though, rather than Sony.
I wonder...

I have heard good things about the Pentax SMC-FA 24-90mm.
Maybe there is someone on the forum that could let you know what they think?

Sounds like a fairly lucky escape for you.
