That's the gentle form. The evil form involves replacing the image with something stomach-turning!

Weirdly it does have a use there. If you want to fiddle around proving that some DA lenses are full frame capable then shutter priority will allow you to change the aperture in a rather roundabout manner.

I guess it depends on what you're doing, but from personal experience if I was going to be a guide/driver on a safari I'd want a relatively compact lens. Wildlife will often come very close to vehicles from what I hear, so you don't necessarily need anything long. Also worth bearing in mind that with lions wandering around you really won't want to open the window wide enough to stick a lens out!
From experience of leading 4x4 groups here I find either my 35mm prime or 18-55mm zoom do the job. I wouldn't mind something like the 16-45mm f4, but last time I didn't find I missed much with the 35mm. It also makes the camera small enough to perch on the centre console behind the gearstick, where it's easily to hand.

This is why I can never fathom the shutter priority mentality. I know people who set shutter speed once then change aperture to balance it, which to me is very strange. I set the aperture to get the sharpness/DOF I want then the shutter speed is matched, although obviously if in low light I'll sacrifice DOF to avoid camera shake.
Tv mode does have its uses, such as aircraft where you either want the camera locked to the fastest possible speed for jets or 1/125 or so to avoid frozen propellers.

There isn't much in it at all - we're talking the proverbial cigarette paper's thickness. It wouldn't be a problem with the Pentax-F style caps or the centre pinch style found on DA zooms as they don't wrap over the rim of the lens barrel.
If you can get a genuine SMC coated Pentax UV filter then I'd go for it (they do come up used, and 49mm is pretty common). Otherwise I find myself thinking why buy a superb lens then stick a piece of glass with unknown coating in front of it?

You cannot alter the total amount of daylight by fiddling with the clocks. I therefore suggest leaving them on GMT and just dealing with the fact that it's dark at different times. If you have to go out after dark then just carry a torch, you can get a very powerful LED one for about the same price as a pint.

The theory went that otherwise you were also focusing on things beyond infinity (as DOF extends further behind the subject than in front), whereas by doing this you use the hyperfocal distance to have far closer objects in focus.
