If money is really tight then Pentax made a few 100-300mm or so zooms in film days. I use an old Pentax-F 100-300mm which isn't bad. Not up to DA 55-300mm standards and quite heavy, but I only paid £60 for it.

Dad's 9-3 is from the GM years so I don't see parts becoming hard to find. I do love the fact that Saab were handed the Vectra floorpan...then proceeded to completely redesign it so that only they could make and use the part!

Citroen's advertising is getting silly. Explain how they can use the slogan "anti-retro" with a car called the DS3? The name is obviously supposed to make you think of the DS, in other words it's retro...

Hmm, Apple getting patent trolled is (to me) rather like a shark getting bitten!

To be honest I just live with them now. Attempts to remove and air dust focus screens always seem to make things worse in my case!

Probably the best value new would be a Pentax 55-300mm (DA or DA L, the DA L lacks quickshift, has a plastic lens mount and doesn't come with a hood but is optically identical).

I hate looking for new cars. I left it up to him for his new lease car this time. he has to drive it all the time after all.

In 2 years though we have to buy a car when he retires. I'll flog off my old Kangoo (hooray!) and we'll just have one car. I am dreading having to decide on what it will be though. Probably not French or German, possibly Czech (I know they're German too), but most likely Japanese or Korean, simply because they last forever and have a higher spec than the Europeans offer.
Renault still don't even provide a radio as standard here .
Saab 9-3? The TiD engines are decidedly sleeperish giving 50mpg or so and anywhere between 150 and 180bhp depending on model. Despite that it's a complete pussycat to drive with no handling quirks, you just get endless torque and a nice hefty shove when the turbo spins up.

Pentax K1000, cost me £120 used in about 1996. Still have it, but haven't used it for ages. The KX/MX are much better!

It would probably help if you could post a photo or two of the tanks?

Paterson are a very well-established name in darkroom equipment and are still in business today. There's no reason you can't use them providing they're still watertight and complete, I use an even older Agfa Rondinax tank for 35mm film which produces results as good as anything made today, although some care is required to make sure the film loads properly.

Just make sure it is the SMC version - there were Pentax-F (and Takumar-F) 28-80mm lenses without SMC coating too. Easy to tell the difference as they don't have SMC lettering, plus the lettering on the lens barrel is rotated 90 degrees.

I suspect they weren't being used by many people. DOF seems to be considered quite advanced in point and shoot circles, meanwhile I always recommend newbies find a decent article on the subject and learn about it as their first step in serious photography. I notice the focal distance markings have been left off the DA L lenses, and I can't really believe this is due to cost.

I find it much, much easier to turn an aperture ring and read the DOF scale than it is to twirl a thumbwheel and guess the DOF!
