So as has been said before...

Pentax need to make a 28mm f1.8 Ltd with the same qualities as the 43mm!

I'm interested to see how many 28-80mm zooms are popping up as least used. I've ended up with three of them and, come to think of it, they don't see much use. I did use one for a 4x4 event shortly after buying the camera where it proved ideal - when standing at a safe distance from the slower sections 28mm was fine, meanwhile 80mm was handy when the action was happening in a big muddy hole I didn't really want to get close to!

Gary, talking about that old FA 28-80mm the power zoom may well work on your K10D. I know it will on a K7 but not on my K-m. You don't get all the PZ effects, just motorised zooming and the lens automatically retracting to its shortest length when you turn the power off. Mine lacked the switch on the side but I already had a pile of bits from a well and truly broken one, so after a quick drop of superglue I now have a very tidy example with original caps both ends.

I'll think about this one for a while I reckon. The 70mm doesn't appeal as I already have the 50-135mm, so if I'm spending big money on a lens it will have to fill a gap as the 21mm would. It's just a case of whether I'd get enough use from it to justify the price.

Also, invest in a pack of surgical-type gloves for installing the screen. They'll avoid any risk of grease or dirt from fingers contaminating the glass.

I've stuffed a Tesco LE bulb in for now, but will be looking closely at the halogen ones which now seem to be available.

If only someone would make LED bulbs with built-in reflectors. I have one of these which will illuminate a medium sized room well enough to read by, providing you can bounce the light from a white ceiling.

It's hard to say, really!

I like 35mm-40mm as a standard/walkabout lens on film, so by that logic I should buy the 21mm. It would also make for a very nice three lens system with my 35/2.4 and DA* 50-135mm. I'm not fond of the distortion of UWA lenses so wouldn't really want anything wider than the 21mm.

If Pentax still made a 28mm this would be a much easier choice!

As the title says. I'm just wondering if anyone has both of these and finds a use for both? While the 40mm is obviously very compact and sharp it's extremely close in focal length to the 35mm, which is hardly a giant of a lens and is also very sharp with smooth bokeh.

The 40mm is £100 cheaper than the DA 21mm I've been looking at, hence asking. I fancy a pancake lens but I'm not sure which to go for!

I thought I'd been doing exactly the opposite with any non-SMC lenses!

I may be partly responsible for rushes on 28mm f3.5 lenses and/or anyone chasing 120mm f2.8s, although the latter seem rare enough that the collectors will push the price through the roof before anyone intending to use the thing day to day gets a look-in. Mine does get used, but rather carefully as I quite like it and don't want to risk (for example) dropping it in a muddy hole!

Recently the 50-135mm has been the most used, although it tends to be whatever lens I bought most recently.

Least used are probably the M series zooms, or even the Tokina AT-X 28-85mm which has been used a grand total of once since I bought it bundled with a black ME Super. I wasn't really after the lens, but the total price was fair for the camera alone.

All you need to know about using lenses intended for film on digital is that they will have a different field of view. The Pentax DSLR sensors are smaller than a frame of 35mm film, so a 28mm lens is no longer a wide angle one (hence why your kit lens is an 18-55mm, roughly equivalent to the 28-80mm used on film).

Inversely, most of the DA lenses are designed to cover the smaller sensor and will vignette if used on a 35mm film body. A few are ok, such as the DA 35mm f2.4, DA 40mm and DA 70mm. Others may also work, but those are the three I've either tried myself or seen evidence of.
