I'm a simple soul and prefer the first one, both the colour and composition. Was it a big hoverfly or a smallish sunflower?

PeteL, I think a 300/4 is - at the moment - next on my wish list. I toyed with the idea of the DA* but went for the 50-135 and an MoT instead!
We're a bit more relaxed about cameras out here, but I find that the few days I decide not to take mine with me are the days when unexpected diversions crop up. I've never seen a helicopter with another helicopter underslung: that would be quite a sight! Cheers.
