There's something in the labelling, isn't there? When something is called FULL frame, it's hard not to feel, almost subliminally, that anything less must be deficient.

Regardless of that nonsense, it's still a pity Pentax appear to have let the boat sail without them. By not being more adventurous/innovative, others appear to have taken the advantage, and I believe it will be genuinely difficult for Pentax to come up with a FF camera distinctive enough to pull people away from other brands -- which is what would be essential if the model was to prosper.

I think I understand some of their difficulty. The changes in ownership must have played havoc with any continuity in their strategy: with the best will in the world, takeovers are immensely distracting.

Why the preoccupation with labels? Leave that to the marketing guys. 'Consumer', 'Enthusiast', 'Pro' -- quite meaningless categorizations, obscuring as much as they reveal. The main thing is for the user/buyer to be confident that the camera suits their purposes.

In addition a professional might want to be assured that there is a sufficiently good 'infrastructure' (loans, speedy repair, exchange etc) in place.

This is the 'Falcon'-labelled version of the popular fisheye lens. I bought it from a forum member about three years ago.

I have enjoyed using it but I am rationalizing my lens collection and have decided to offer it for sale.
It hasn't been heavily used and has all original packaging:

It is mechanically and optically in very good condition and the body likewise.

I'm looking for £140, which will include UK special delivery. Payment by bank transfer, please. I will accept returns if item not as described.

Thanks for looking.

Below is a photo of the lens and also an example of my use of it (any shortcomings are mine rather than the lens's!) For more information on the lens see http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/8mm-f35.htm

If anybody seriously needs a so called Full Frame system they would have it by now,
Rather an over-confident statement. For one, you are ignoring those (like me) who would like one and who have been hoping that Pentax might provide.

personally I don't think we will ever see Pentax releasing a FF body, certainly not within the next 5 years, too much investment for what could be no return in the short to medium term.
You may well be right. Having listened to the unimpressive John Carlson, it's difficult to maintain much hope you're mistaken.

Is Pentax in danger of being left behind, as (leaving aside the technical arguments for/against FF) other major players put a good deal of money and effort into developing the market's taste for it? Or are they right to believe FF is an unprofitable 'gap' to fill, given the competition they would face in an (as yet?) small segment of the market? None of us has any way of knowing their thinking, particularly given the delphic nature of their utterances.

I like my Pentax camera a good deal, but for landscape photography I crave FF. Again, whether I am right to or not will for now remain a moot point. But I can see myself transferring my affections in 2015 if Pentax decides the FF gap can remain just that -- a gap.

You can't coerce them. Producing lenses in a Pentax mount is either a viable market for them or it isn't. Currently, it seems it isn't.
