I get zero pleasure from drinking anything, to me its just one of those necessary things to stay alive, when I was a child my mother had to make sure I was drinking, I could and still can, go all day without drinking anything.
I could not drink a pint of anything, in a short space of time, if you paid me, it would take a minimum of an hour and that would be pushing it.
Maybe I am crossed with a camel, also the reason I have the hump most of the time.

It doesn't do that on mine! However I use it for stop down metering all the time, and sometimes struggle to locate next to the (similarly imperfectly placed) AF button.... You are not alone as I have the same problem, both with my K10 and K5, but with my Pentax Spotmatic II, purchased back in 1974, I have never had a problem with focusing. I was trying out some of my old manual focus lenses (very briefly as it turns out) I have the K-r, I have already set the dioptre with the kit lenses so I could rule that out, but I am finding it extremely difficult to get the focusing nailed manually, the view finder without the split circle in the middle is for me an awkward faff, back and forth for an eternity it seems.
What tips and tricks are there out there for this?

I think the Spotmatic focusing screen was much better, with the shimmy circle in the centre, (I have forgotten the correct term for that circle).
Sorry that has not answered/ solved your problem, but I am sure some one will have a answer/solution.
