The K2 is nice but I always grab one of my KX bodies instead.
I now own three; two silver and one black.

I cannot report reliability of the K2/K2DMD as I don't recall using them in such conditions.
In cold weather I normally opt for a body with mechanical shutter rather than a battery-dependent electronic shutter.

The Pentax K2 is attractive but I never use mine. I also owned the K2DMD but sold that one.
The K2DMD adds AE lock, in-finder aperture display and "motor drive" (only 2 fps) capability.

The K2/K2DMD film speed setting/exposure compensation rings are truly a design from hell.

I have always been a big fan of 35mm pocket cameras and have tried many different models.
My Pentax Espio Mini broke after only about a dozen rolls.

Several years ago Eric Hendrickson (Link: pentaxs.com) upgraded my MZ-3 by doing this very repair.
At that time he had a source for the upgraded replacement motor with more durable metal gear.

FWIW I also had him install an MZ-M/ZX-M focusing screen as well.
Now it's a terrific AF/MF body I expect to be reliable for years.

Like your Canon A-1 the Pentax Super A/Super Program exposure readout is a digital display without scale, if you fancy that sort of thing...

I'm sure you're "good enough" to use a Pentax LX.
The question is do you need a professional system camera.
I don't, and I sold mine.

For my needs a Pentax KX works equally well, and I prefer it to the LX.
So much so in fact I now own three of them...

I've seen the Motor Drive MX for sale occasionally, but never a working battery pack.
