Eric Hendrickson installed the improved motor with metal gear and an MZ-M focus screen.
It's an okay camera, but it's still a "plastic Pentax"...

Why not shoot video and just grab frames?
Must be pretty tedious though.
Hell, I don't even like looking over 36 frames on a proof sheet trying to find a good one to print...

Get yourself a clean working copy and invest in a "standard service" at a reputable repairer.
This consists of CLA (clean, lubricate, adjust) plus new door seals and mirror bumper foam.
Eric Hendrickson in USA is excellent and cheap. In UK Harrow Technical does good work.

I bought it for focus confirmation with manual focus lenses, which is indeed quite useful.
Alas the ME-F does not have depth-of-field preview, so I seldom use it.

KX: one of mine has a problem with the metering circuit or switch (the wind lever needs to be 'offset' for the metering to work)
But It's not too big a bother, unless you're a left-eye shooter...

My favorite by far has always been the Pentax KX.

Unlike digital, with film the camera body doesn't really have any effect on the quality of the results. Provided it's a precision made one anyway, but all Pentax models will be fine.
