Which sadly simply reflects that you're not listening and haven't understood the criticism.

I've yet to find a feature that actually works. It'll take weeks to fix this.Even the poll graphic doesn't accurately reflect the numbers.

Easy, go back to the one that worked. Implement a new one if needed from established software, but bin this one.

That's a bit rich, considering the contempt we've been shown.I just don't like rudeness, there really is no need. Yet forums, as I've seen through the years, seem to drag this sort of attitude out of people.

BTW, I thought I'd better explain why I'm reacting so strongly. It's mostly down to my background as a server adminstrator (20 years), web script developer (10 years) - specialising in community software - server security expert (20 years). It's why I simply cannot fathom why on earth this move has been made, and so badly, and without any thought for the membership using the service.

Indeed. Even trying to post and follow this thread I'm find a new bug every few seconds. Emails notification still broken. Threading still broken. Chronological listing completely and utterly broken. The posting box - broken.Gwyn wrote:

Gwyn, nothing personal in this, but i had problems getting into the site after the change, i couldn't post, then my posts were repeated, posts with sections of code were truncated so the full post was not seen, opening threads is very slow, I was getting errors on trying to open the site for 1 full hour this morning, images are lousy etc. ...... but I found the general outcry that things had changed ridiculous when most of you had not taken the time to explore the new site, ...

To leave the forum after less than a day of the new format seems a bit extreme and very sad. Maybe if we were to get back to discussing Pentax and photography rather than the forum things would be better here.
Erm. This is exactly my point. I can't, because the thing is broken in the extreme. I've already said that I'd have been extremely happy with a completely new forum. But use a standard one to replace the standard one we already had. Not some cobbled together hack that simply does not work, not even the fundamental basics. To leave the forum after less than a day of the new format seems a bit extreme and very sad. I don't see much point in asking for features when it's as simple as it gets. Visit http://vbulletin.com and implement it. Such software has been developed over time to the pinnacle of its type. It's been developed by people who actually use the software. Why on earth are PU attempting to re-invent something that is commercially available now, with support and is technically extremelyeasy to implement and integrate.
To be honest, I'm disgusted with the disregard we have been shown. I'd say that just about everything in this joke of a forum script is broken:
Chronological sorting of every type
Thread listing
Image display
This absolutely horrid and broken post editor
Presentation
Fixed table widths
Notification emails
It's like stepping back into the dark ages. They seem to think that everyone is still using 800*600 monitors, whereas the minimum standard these days is double that size.
Whoever specced and developed this monstrosity should be taken out back and shot and a real forum implemented. Oh wait, we had one, and it would have been the simplest thing in the world to install a proper upgrade to a good forum application and still achieve their beloved integration. It could have been done in days, not weeks and this place would have been an even greater pleasure to visit.
As it is now, it's practically unusable and no amount of tweaking and scripting is going fix this abortion.
IMHO, of course
