I went to this event a few weeks back, first time I used the Sigma 300 F2.8 at an event. Various restrictions meant there was no access to the paddock where I would normally take quite a lot of shots from at theses events.

Nice set George.
I was at Donington, but despite the lack of spectators I wasn't allowed out of the paddock/pits area & wasn't allowed to wander into other parts of the paddock...
The view from my pit garage was very limited, and there wasn't even anywhere I could get a coffee!

Probably would have been a good chance to catch up on some post processing. Maybe next time!
Thanks Mike,

It was good to be back at a live event, I enjoyed the historic F1 at Donington a few weeks back.

Sounds a bit grim from your position, the lack of coffee could have pushed me over the edge !

I went to the British GT for the qualifying last weekend (should have been at Donington for British Touring Cars but that was run behind closed doors at the last minute)

It was a strange day with no access to the paddock and understandable restrictions due to Covid but it was good to be back.

Some of the results below, taken with K1mkii on DFA 24-70 F2.8, K3 & Sigma 100-300 F4 */ DA 50-135 F2.8

I’ve had both.

Sigma very fast AF (compared to Pentax), sharp ,slightly cooler colours. No weather sealing but never had problems. The out of focus areas were not as smooth as the Pentax and could look rather messy with the wrong background. I could use the Sigma for running events with individuals coming towards me, I could not do this with the Pentax as I would miss too many spontaneous moments due to AF. Now use Nikon for these events and sold the Sigma to reduce my lens collection. Sigma has slightly longer reach.

Pentax, moderate af - found it annoying when I was trying to focus on My kids coming towards me or running events as above. Love the colours and out of focus areas, sharp as well. Weather sealed. Something about the pentax that I love, portraits looked better to me, colours/rendering.

I’ve kept the Pentax although it doesn't come out very often, never had SDM problems with it but did convert to screw drive to see if AF speed improved, may have done slightly but converted it back to sdm as preferred silent AF. Prefer feel of the pentax in the hand (from memory slightly bigger (especially with hood) and heavier.

If I was shooting one system I would have kept the sigma as well for the times a faster AF was needed.

Thanks Peter, she is adorable but not a very good gardener, collateral damage is a regular occurrence !

Having moved house last year we are very fortunate to have a large garden in the current lockdown.

I was going to document the garden before the current situation in order to see whats there but now I've had a bit more time to do this now. Everything is on a facebook album in this link link

For those not keen on facebook, I'll post a few below :

Which camera body do you have George? If it's not the K-1 then the TC issue is a non-issue. With the K-1 you can select crop mode, so it become a non-issue and suddenly gain another another 150 mm so it effectively becomes a 630mm f5.6........but a 16MP image.
I've got a K3 / K5iis and a K1 so spoilt for choice really.
