Sigma 300 f2.8 thoughts
I’d love to get a 300 f2.8, these zooms with long reach but with f5.6/6.3 tend to resolve too much and lose light....if only Pentax had a 400/2.8...

Apparently the DA* 300/4 is FF compatible - if so that would be my choice.

If you refer to the new TC, it’s DA and not FF. Someone correct me if I am wrong.../quote]
Good point, if I were to use it with TC would need to be crop mode or on the K3.assuming it (TC) fits on 300 ok.
[quote:3496ace15f="johnha"]There are very few applications that a 300/2.8 is necessary for with a DSLR. A 300/4 is much lighter, compact and cheaper and only gives one stop away (which can be compensated for by upping the ISO). It's not like the film days where ISO 400 was the fastest you could go (colour) and get reasonable results.

Agree with the above, I do have the DA*300 F4 (although focus speed is not the quickest), at times during my motorsport shooting through fencing with a faster lens will help blur the fencing (thats the plan) whilst keeping the shutter speed high without cranking up the ISO too much and still allowing to crop and retain detail hopefully. Its more of a want than a need I guess lol.

It has the same screwdrive focus as my 100-300mm f/4 and 180mm f/3.5 and they work well with the Pentax 1.4x although it is a crop teleconverter so you may get dark corners in FF mode.

Which camera body do you have George? If it's not the K-1 then the TC issue is a non-issue. With the K-1 you can select crop mode, so it become a non-issue and suddenly gain another another 150 mm so it effectively becomes a 630mm f5.6........but a 16MP image.
I've got a K3 / K5iis and a K1 so spoilt for choice really.

Does it work with the Pentax 1.4 TC ?
Any general comments thoughts on it?
